Tips of leaves turning brown and dieing

Hey guys, i was reading through the stickies, and i think i might have found the problem but im not sure, i have pics posted below, check out some of the lower leaves, they seem to be deterating at the tips, turing yellow, brown and then falling apart. Is this a possible phosphorus deficiency??? a lil background about the grow, 4 clfs, equal to 400 watts, which would be 6400 lumens. The soil i am using is a mix between organic peat moss and shultz, the shultz does have time release nuts. we are on about day 17-18. temps range from 70-71 when off to 80-84 when on. humidity is about 40-44%, Ph of the water is about 6.5-7.0

iv been having the almost exact same problem on my seedlings. its my first grow so i figured they wud all die ne ways but there at day 40 and only about 5 inches tall i thought i had a gnat problem so i put them ina grow box and added more better cfls and started using epsom salt
if any body has any advice, help me out

Thats her at day 40 bro? geez? what lights u growing with, soil, temps? this is my first grow also. Check out my grow journal, it seems like the roots on that plant may not be taking to the soil, causing it not to grow.

i started em off in some random soil i stole from my moms house plants lol and with 4 17 watt flourescent tubes, and it wus WAY to cold in the room, about 45-55. but iv put them in potting soil with slow release nitrogen, now have 6 100 watt 6500k clfs and 3 100 watt 2700k cfls and are now ina grow both at 75-80 degrees. i know there WAY WAY undergrown. im actualy surprised they hav lasted this long with how many leafs hav died n fallen off
but they have grown more in the past couple days of adding the lights then they hav ever.
i think the epsom salts has helped out alot too

It sounds like u really brought those girls back to life. Keep those clfs close bro, like 2.5 3.5 inches away. Move them daily. I have been using seemorebuds book as a reference, you should really check it out, its like a great journal .Between RIU.org and the book, i have been learning so much every day, i think my problem could be fixed with some nutrients! im not totally sure so hopefully some with with experience could chime in.

yea i have them about 3 inch away n i rotate the lights once or twice a day. but yea deffinatly, i had no idea what i was doing untill i found this site. im thinking its either the soil or nute defficiency thats turning the leafs yellow n drying them out. but yea for sure, we need sum veterans ta tell us wussup lol

Those are mighty big pots for such small plants. What NPK values are they receiving in the fertilizer?

Hey ben! the soil i have been using is a mix of schultz plus, .08-.12-.08, and some organic peat moss. i picked up some schultz liquid plant food today, 10-15-10. The reason i chose this is because it was the most balanced stuff walmart had! Do you think this will be sufficent for my veg stage? or should i go with something more along the lines of 20-5-5
The reason for the larger pots is i don't want to keep transplanting, and figured this size would be sufficient through out the rest of the grow

I'd go with the 20-5-5, more than likely it will be a 30-10-10 high in urea.

Start with a 20 styro cup or one gallon pot, move up to a 3-5 gallon pot to finish. One upcan is all you need. You best hope your plants rapidly fill out that pot with roots or you'll lose your plants to root rot.

I strated in 20oz party cups, i noticed that the roots were starting to build up at the bottom, so i switched to bigger pots, i'll look for some 30-10-10, hopefully they sell this at maybe walmart or homedepot or somthing, since most of the specialty stores are closed, seasonal up here in canada

If you need more N you could always scratch in a couple of tsp. of blood meal. It provides a pretty fast release of N, so don't over do it thinking because it's organic it can never get too "hot". I've burned/stressed plants with too much manure and meals.

hey buddy. quick question. these posts were dated for Oct. of 2009 which was a few months ago. So ur plants should be done by now hopefully. You got any pics of your harvest?
