Three weeks old. How they look to you?

Wait, what?

Really? I've purposely tried to keep them short by keeping the light an inch away and watering around the edges of the pot to stimulate root growth and they seem healthy. Are there smaller strains?

I don't know how you guys keep time. I planted these 3 weeks ago. They came out of the soil in one day

I'm not a grower, just trying to save some money

I had the same problem (slow growth) but then a week later I noticed the stems were the size of three toothpicks and the root growth was amazing along with some bright vibrant green growth.... check out my grow for more :D

Actually switched to 3 gallon pots today and was surprised by the seris amount of root growth. I want to clone these, but don't want to clone a loser. I guess I'll wait to see if takes off

They look healthy. Look to be a Lil off pace from my vegging plants but a good veg is needed. I would try to aerate your soil more. Looks very sloe draining or would hold to much water. I love a 50/50 mix at this stage . Fast roots, fast shoots. Hit them with a ton of microbes and don't over deed, your doing a great job bro . Rep

The soil is organic potting soil. What can I get to aerate that's pretty easy to find? It's February, the stores are pretty bare right now in the north

They look good to me. A little small for 3 weeks maybe, but that doesn't matter at all. How much light are you using? I assume CFL's, so how many (and what wattage) per plant?

CFLs work great for a first time grow. My first grow was in a double-stacked Rubbermaid bin CFL contraption, and I harvested an ounce of really nice Blue Cheese.

CFLs just don't grow plants quite as fast as HID lighting. Don't worry about how fast they grow, just keep them healthy and you'll be happy.

If you are going to use that same soil for the rest of the grow, I'd mix it 3 parts soil, 1 part perlite.

Good luck!

Ok most people are just coming off as insulting by stating facts but not elaborating further. Unfortunately these guys are correct, the plants are a bit small for 3 weeks. But don't get me wrong, overall they look really healthy! It just seems that you should give your girls a little bit more space, try planting them in a larger container if you can. Those look like they're one gallon pots and they're likely getting root bound and can be transplanted into 3-10 gallon plants depending on the size of your lights. I think that if you transplant your girls into larger containers you'll notice a big difference in size fast, the plants will literally explode in growth if you get a larger pot. If you can afford it, look into getting mycorrhizae.

http://www.amazon.com/Xtreme-Gardening-4402-Mykos-2-2-Pound/dp/B003STB5N6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1391229209&sr=8-1&keywords=mycorrhizae

What you do is dig the hole for the transplant, but before making the transplant you fill the hole with the mykos. It's pretty much beneficial fungi that helps stimulate root growth as well as more efficient usage of nutrients. These micro-organisms are able to break down the nutrients into your soil, they literally eat your nutes in the soil and poop it back out in a way that is much much easier for the plants to obtain through their roots. So not only does this product help tremendously with root growth, but makes your feeding more efficient as well.

The reason I bring this part up is because if the larger pot size doesn't fix your problem, your plant might not be getting enough nutes. Before pumping it with more nutes, try the mykos for a week and note the results. If the plant still seems like it is sluggish in growth, just give it a tad bit more nutes than normal. Always take it slow with upping the dose of your nutes!

Again, these guys are 100% correct about the plants being too small for 3 weeks. But, the plants are also looking quite healthy. I bet if you look at the bottom of the pots they'll be rootbound if not close to it. Transplant to a larger pot and watch your girls thank you for it! And of course, keep posting on forums like these with any questions you have along the way. People like you who are willing to ask questions and admit they don't know everything will usually yield more than those too stubborn to ask for help. You asking this question will help your plants out greatly if you grab some larger pots. Keep asking questions and best of luck with your grow man! Just don't overthink it, it's just a plant and will do what it does best. All you need to do is provide it with what it needs. You've made it this far so I'm sure you'll get a pretty good harvest after all is said and done. More importantly, you'll have the experience to use for your next grow!

Perlite or lava rock. Mother Earth sells 4 cf of perlite for 30, and lava rock by Plantit! For $28 for 50 liters. I just bought them today as well as some canna coco for a good soil mix. I add all kinds of stuff and a homeade soil is cheaper than bagged soil of equal value but in actuality I think homeade is the best especially when you source fresh local ingredients or make them yourself which is very very easy. Spicy sativas thread is great for this info. Same As Gandalf and a few others but these threads forsure out of the top of my head contain crazy amounts of great living organic soil which will yield quite well and have thee best produce without questions.
