Thoughts on growth in a hyperbaric chamber?

Im was an 8 yr commercial Diver in the Gulf who broke his neck and back last year. I'm now a patient and grower and somewhat of a mad scientist. Last year I built a School bus into an RV that ran on Waste Cooking oil that I collected from behind restaurants and drove across the country in it. Now I'm building a Home made hyperbaric chamber to create an enclosed life support system for my plants. The growing method is called "McGrath Hyperoponics" . I'll also be dosing the root structures with 100% 02 periodically during the dark hours, and will filling the chamber with Co2 like any other normal grow. Im expecting to have to use 50% the normal nutrients and if it ends up being anything like NASA's experiments I should see a bio-mas increase of around 600%. I'm not sure on the amount of pressure I'll put them under yet but I doubt it will be more than 2 atmospheres absolute. I'm expecting some Very Dense Buds.

It will be all hydroponics and true 600watt LED for veg and 1200 watt LED for flowering. I'll probably post a thread on the Grow to let people know how it goes.

d.s.m. - it depends on the depth and time at depth for safe decompression. you can see Decompression tables in the Navy Dive Manual online if you like. It's public information.

A very interesting study. Old monoplaces with 25 INCH diameter windows are available as scrap items or for a few $thousand. (Sechrist 2500B's or Perry Sigma 1's).
Please be careful with sources of ignition within the chamber you use or build - i.e. LED's. It is surprising what will burn in 100% Oxygen - even pvc wiring. Also - placing the LED's next to the acrylic window will heat it and damage it.

lol, back from the dead huh? let us know how it goes... when will you be starting your testing for the hopeful 600% increase in bio-mass?

THROUGH THE POWERS OF NECROMANCY I GRANT YOU NEW LIFE!

Read S1605: http://www.usc.edu/CSSF/History/2003/Projects/S16.pdf

I actually found this page searching if it's possible to put plants in a hypobaric chamber for a few minutes at a vacuum level enough to asphyxiate pests and spare the plant for treatment of chemically resilient infestations.

It has been done and it seems the results were both more growth but especially healthier plants. I wish I could have seen the lab notes.

I don't think this would be used in a real grow unless you incorporate methods to remove/cycle the O2 into CO2 again and condense the humidity in some manner (recycling it back into the soil or hydro system seems the logical thing to do)
Running a compressor all day would become very expensive so I don't think removal is a good option. Cycling the air between the plant chamber and a bacteria chamber should do the trick.

In the end it's still going to be cost prohibitive(in it's current state) but maybe it could be used in cloning or treating sick but valuable plants.

lol...i think they would freak out and die from all the air pressure! but maybe u could adapt a strain...name it the HyPerCO[SUB]2[/SUB] strain! lol
