I just encountered a strange phenomenon...
First a short set-up as to how this happened: I smoke to treat anxiety/depression and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). Previously I was on a prescription for fluoxetine (aka Prozac), and alprzolam. I stopped taking the alprazolam as it is physically addicting and marijuana had less harmful side effects... so to wrap this up - I had bottle of fluoxetine in which I just arbitrarily started saving my seeds in...
I noticed the seeds were well covered in the powdery residue but didn't think much of it... after just sprouting them on 4/20 I've noticed they are growing strangely compared to the seeds which I had stored in a plastic bag. Several of the seedlings developed 'normally' but were like miniature banzai seedlings that have remained very small even though they are growing nodes/leaves at the same rate as the other non-fluoxetine coated seeds... very cool looking.
Anyone with a biochemistry background care to hypothesize as to why fluoxetine would have this effect (or any for that matter) on a plant? Or should I just chalk it up to coincidence?
