New poll shows good news for George W. Bush 01:30
Washington (CNN)Former President George W. Bush is under fire for charging $100,000 to speak to a group of veterans wounded in a pair of wars he started when he was in office, just the latest front in a political battle over speaking fees that has hit both sides of the aisle.

Members of the Texas-based Helping a Hero charity told ABC News that Bush charged $100,000 for his 2012 speech at a charity fundraiser for veterans who lost limbs in the Afghanistan and Iraq Wars. The former president was also given use of a private jet at a cost of $20,000 and former First Lady Laura Bush was paid $50,000 to speak to the group last year.

The fees infuriated one of the board members, who called the fees a "slap in the face" for wounded veterans.

"For him to be paid to raise money for veterans that were wounded in combat under his orders, I don't think that's right," former Marine Eddie Wright told ABC. Wright lost both his hands in a 2004 rocket attack in Fallujah, Iraq.

So, Cheney and Haliburton make money on the front end and Bush collects on the wounded on the back end. Priceless.

I agree that in the current climate of Citizens United, politics is now a cesspool of corporate sponsors. And we have always had bad people on both side of the isle, but there really is no comparison in fouls between the two parties. I left the republicans because I felt the shame of voter suppression, sending men to war for personal gain (war crimes), war on women's rights, catering to the religious right who believe in no separation of church and state, and because really they only now cater to the wealthy 1% and those stupid enough to believe they are one of them or soon will be. Also in case no one noticed it took a Democrat to straighten up the last two republican messes they made of our United States. I mean a huge part of the republican base are people on medicare and social security and yet they support a party that wants to eliminate or cut back on the same thing that keeps them alive. This is done by scaring dumb people, largely by telling them a black man is going to take away their guns and religious freedom. Comical and sad really.

According to the Vet groups lawyer his appearance was solicited and they were given a discounted rate and more importantly HIS appearance generated an extra $million for the group. Sounds like money well spent.

I wonder how much money was generated for the Russian gov. Faux front group who gave Slick Willy $500k days before his cough cough Sec. Of State wife gave out a sweetheart deal to same...giving them US uranium rights.

I will personally take capitalism over treason.

Oh what about whitewater, and getting a blowjob while president, those things really impacted the american people and economy
If this is all it takes for you to proudly call yourself a republican, well that's a pretty shabbily made bed you are sleeping in. It's pretty obvious that you and Minmelted believe your example, even if true are equal comparisons. Pretty weak, keep trying.
Being a republican is like being a born again christian, you have to wake up every day and think of a new reason to convince yourself and others that you are thoughtful and intelligent in your belief that the earth is only 7,000 yrs. old. That's what feux news is for, it gives losers a place to go to and whine and feel welcome. Poor poor people, MSM is picking on you. Every time I hear that I think of Sarah Palin the quitter, speaking tongues and how she would have made a great VP or P. Oh my, comic relief and scary.

Tina Fey needs a medal for helping to keep Sarah Palin out of office!

Lol. So you got nothing? I left the Dems and became an independent precisely because propagandists like yourself ruined my party.

Unfortunately, this kind of despicable behavior is not limited to one side of the aisle.

Hillary Clinton collected $200,000 for a speech to the Boys and Girls Club of Long Beach, CA but did not visit any of the club’s facilities or meet with the kids the club serves.
