Dude, i have tried to help you but i dont think you have even noticed my advise.

I would of been a massive help to you and your grow, i have posted my opionion's and was fairly intrested in this thread.

But like i said, you are clueless about this so you do need to do research.

Go to the FAQ's, you can have all your questions anwsered.
Ok Thanks for all the help. Im just frustated right now. I guess growing is a niche industry and all these companies that sell growing supplies know that. Thats why everything costs so damn much. Id like to buy all the best stuff but cant afford it, so I look for the cheapest way of doing everything, which isnt always best. +rep

Maybe downsize to a 250W?

keeping temps right is very easy, with the right tool.

A powerfull extraction fan!!!

All you need is a lamp kit, the rest is not that dear.

Texas, I'm starting in a small room as well and am using a 400Watt hps too. So far it has raised the temp to about 82, but I havn't got my exhaust fan hooked up yet. Just order a 6" in line exhaust fan get some 6" flexable duct, and hook them up to your lamp fixture. Your lamp should have a vent hole in the housing . You can just stick the end of the duct out of a hole in your tent, you may also need a fan drawing cool air in or just the exhaust may pull some in from any vent openings you may already have . Also check with Rosemans faq and his grow tips are excellent!!good luck tex

the reflector isnt a cool tube but it does come w/ attachments for adding an inline fan for cooling the bulb, I'm not even using it though, I just have one of the table top fans that rotate back and forth, same one I had on them w/ the cfl's

Is it a cool tube system? What same fan? Thanks

Yeah it can be frustrating at first, especially when going w/ indoor growing.. I'm still in the middle of my first indoor grow, so i know from experience..

The best thing to do is research.. Read until you can't read anymore... and then read more!! I found myself stumbling across something 2 or 3 times, and reading through it each time anyways.. You can really get about all the information you need just from the FAQ's here and the sticky's in all the forums...

I switched to a 250 watt hps 2 weeks ago, and there is still an increase in heat as opposed to floursents, cfl's, etc... The temperature inside the room jumped 10 degrees in a matter of 12 hours.. Once you purchase an HPS, if you do, you'll understand why it's so much hotter when you hook it up than other lighting...

With HPS, these things are required, or atleast that's what i've read and seen for myself w/ my hps personally..

Must have intake (fan blowing cool air into the bottom of the room/tent)

exhaust (fan blowing hot air out from the top of the room/tent)..

fans inside the room (i have one oscilating blowing on the plants.. One fan blowing the cool air coming into the room straight up at the light/hood/ballast itself.. and one fan at the top of the room to help push some of the hot air out VIA the exhaust)..

watering more often... make sure you don't overwater though... I noticed a big difference in how much water the plants were needing after switching from flouro's to the hps... all depends on how the plants react though...

spraying the leaves... highly recommended when the light is not on as it can cause the HPS bulb to explode (not good).. i take my plants out of the room to spray them lightly once a day, just before they go into their dark cycle.. Even w/ the ventilation and fans keeping temperatures steady, the plants leaves still seem to dry more under the hps light.. this one is more so from my own experience, haven't found a lot of recommendations on this...

As i said, there is plenty of information on this site that will lead you in the right direction.. Look for Grow Journals that are similar to your growing situation.. Read through them, see where they ran into problems and keep those things in mind.. It will help you out a ton in the long run.. I'm only a month into my first indoor grow, although I have previous outdoor experience, but I feel i've learned quite a bit in just that time... I researched for about a month, then started...

Good luck to ya'!! If you can get it setup right, you will definetely love the results an HPS produces... If you can't, CFL's are still an efficient way of growing MJ...

BTW.... if funds are tight, just stick w/ the CFL's for now.. Remember what things you're going to have to buy later in the grow.. Soil, water, nutes, pots, etc...

W/ the purchase of the HPS, comes ventilation costs as well.. plus you still have to buy all the above mentioned supplies..

Don't get me wrong, you can do the HPS and ventilation for relatively cheap, but if money is tight, just wait til you can afford it..

how do you keep your inside temps 60-65? Extra ac unit?
I'm way up North, so yeah, a/c in the summer, and opening/closing doors, vents, etc in the winter. I actually have to heat the bud room to ensure no lower than 60* and then, warm the chill off the "lights out" period every morning.
