Ok so I have a heat issue. Thats why Im using cfls but when I have 10 cfls in a tent thast are 3 inches away from the plants, isnt that hot too? Im thinking if I buy a 400w hps and keep it 12-18 inches away (I think thats right) I can use my fans to blow the hot air from the plants? Or maybe make my own cool tube?

Any help here from guys with experience?

Hps is miles better but you need propper ventilation, you can touch a cfl bulb so its not too hot. if you have heat troubles now dont get the hps.

Do you know your lights out temp? What kind of exhaust is available?
I thought cfls allowed closer than 3"?

Lights out is 70-76 depending on room temp. I'll buy whatever exhaust I need. They can be but I keep them around 3 inches. I use reflectors and they are everywhere lol so its hard to see.

HUH? Dont get what you said?
Lack of puncuation is why that's hard to read.

I have buddies with 1000w HPS less than a foot away during veg. For flower it's over a foot. You can touch the glass of the cool tubes when they're on. That's how cool they run. If you have a 400w HPS without a cool tube it will put off a lot of heat.

Cool thats what I need then. 400 watt hps and homemade cool tube. Any ideas fro a cheap powerful fan?

Photos of your grow room will help us point you in the right direction. I would just buy a fan from Walmart.

hey man i just switched form cfl to the 400w next gen system from DiscountHydro.com
I love it, I have had no problems with heat, it actually seems to keep the room a little cooler
than the cfls, I did have a shitload of them so, anyway, I dont think you'll have any problem, I'm using the same fan
just a standard small household fan on the plants

Your temps will go well over 90+ with lights on inside that tent, a fan blowing over the tops will not be enough.

You WILL need and inline extraction fan sucking heat from the bulb and some other type of fan sucking cool fresh air in, little cheap fans will not help, pay the extra and get some propper ventilation going on inside you tent.

It'd help a lot if you could get your lights out temp down to around 60-65.

Plants expect a 10*-15* drop when the lights are out, IMO. Cooler nights also may increase thc production.
I'm running 2 600hps about a foot away from the canopies, w/oscillating fan sweeping across the vegetation. Temps 60*-75* . . . but also have a high ceiling in bud room.
Obviously you'll need to suck the hot air out of the top of your tent somehow.
Good luck.
