Me and my buddy, mainly my buddy, are thinking about starting a petition to get a ballot in the 2012 vote for legalizing and regulating dispesaries in michigan. we would need almost 300,000 signatures. what do you guys think, would we be able to get the support we need?

Why not just get a petition to fully legalize? You need the same amount of signatures. Or maybe present both petitions and everyone sign both?

I think it's an excellet idea and I've considered doing it myself. The truth is that 300k sigs is a lot and I really don't think there is enough time now to draft the law, get the sigs, and get it on the ballot. There's approx 425 days until the election, which means that there would have to be an absolute minimum of 704 sigs per day for 425ish days straight. That's a lot of work by itself, let alone trying to tackle it with even a part time job, or how much you'd pay in gas traveling. You could get it ready for the 2014 ballot, but the risk of losing is higher since primaries have a much larger turnout.

If you think you can do it, go for it man. I really hope you can and I'd be willing to help with whatever I could.

We've been told by plenty of politicians what they think of not only this law, but what they think of those of
us who have enrolled in the program. We who have been stereotyped as money grubbing drug crazed criminals,
or potheads just looking to legally get high.
How us pothead zombies pulled the wool over millions of eyes, at the expense of the sick.
So complete in our ruse, it would make the most successful pharmaceutical drug rep weep with envy.
At least that's what a minor minority in the minority are telling those "representatives" who oppose any form of marijuana,
and whos ears are more than willing to listen to those paniced cries of a doomed Michigan.

Wouldn't it be easier to just vote the unrepresenting politicians out of office.
We all see how well they've represented a 63% majority, by hiding behind ordinances and moratoriums.
Fortunately for us voters, a 63% vote for "the other candidate" can't be as easily ignored.
I'd rather hear them whine how a bunch of pothead zombies were able to change the face of politics
in Michigan.
It's time to go after the many heads of this political snake.
In our stereotypical peaceful, nonviolent, very mellow and far out way. Of course.

You need signatures of registered voters totaling 8% of the total votes for the last governor election to get anything on the ballot. There were 3,226,088 votes cast, that means you would need to get 258,088 legit registered voters signatures. And it better be legit voters, because you know the comission set-up to review it will nit pick every little dotted "i" and crossed "t".

Take your petition drive to rallys such as the the one this coming wednesday. Michigan Music festivals would also be a great place to get signatures.
