Nixon is dead but the negative impacts and his legacy remain . I know Nepal very well ,I speak Nepali .I was in India when this happenned .India leader Indira Ghandi was not following american guide lines .India was at that time pro Sovietic .
Cannabis grow wild and thrive all over Nepal ...millions of tons every years .
Because of Nixon Nepalis started to neglect cannabis more and more so much that now there is much less tourism and they are all desperate .Only trekkers coming ,not funny people like hippies ...In Nepal you can grow the best weed in the world and what they doing ??
NOTHING..... that is since Nixon time ...
Thailand just legalised cannabis in order to attract tourists ,it seems to work rather well...Thais are smart .

The war on drugs was the biggest lie
“We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities"

The War on Drugs was and continues to be a voter suppression campaign with job guarantees for thousands and thousand of drug warriors all around the world. And the side benefit to certain politicians is that Culture Warriors love it. But just like alcohol prohibition, the War on Drugs boosts profits for organized crime and made the world less safe. Don't even get me started on the corruption that is civil asset forfeiture....

Here's the full paragraph. It's SHOCKING.

"“The Nixon campaign in 1968, and the Nixon White House after that, had two enemies: the antiwar left and black people. You understand what I’m saying? We knew we couldn’t make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin, and then criminalizing both heavily, we could disrupt those communities. We could arrest their leaders, raid their homes, break up their meetings, and vilify them night after night on the evening news. Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did.”

And in those days, possession of even a small amount of marijuana was considered a felony which in many jurisdictions meant losing one's right to vote.
