I need something that tapers, and there are a couple other constraints ... buckets are actually hard to find with the right features, but I will def take another look.

lol i just got bashed in the thread called does anyone use the freaken wick system anymore... lol...

My opinion from successfull grow after successfull grow using the wick system...

1. It is a great system if you are going to veg and flower more than a couple plants... IE.. kiddie pool with bricks... done that and got great results...
2. The plants never run out of water unless you dont top off the resevior.
3. Wicking adds oxygen threw the open wick to the roots directly
4. Adding nutes is as simple as adding it to the resevior based on the amount of water your using.
5. You can leave the system for up to a week with no worries of over or underwatering assuming you top off the resevior.

the downside that i have found

1. You need to really keep an eye on the cleanleness of the water and change it once or so a month.. more upon inspection of nasty water...
2. You dont want to much of the wick exposed to air.. alittle air help the plant alot makes the wick moldy and nasty..
3. takes up alot of space unless you go rubbermaid....Simply Hydroponics - System types

Ive used this setup for over 5 years... just recently swithced to cfl and went back to normal hand watering.. once i get my light setup figured out ill be using it again....

Make sure you use enough wick, thickness and length and place it no more than half way into the pot... rope wick is the best i can offer as it worked for me... some rope is waterproof.. so stay away and try cotton... make sure your pots are big enough for a huge root ball... after you pull it out it looks like a tampon coming out of the roots.. lol... Good luck and pm me if you need more sites to read or a heads up ....

Big Bud Balls Knows his shit so listen to him ive chatted a couple times with him and hes cool dude

Ive found that five gallon buckets inside each other work great.. just keep them alittle more seperated to allow you to pull em apart to change or clean the water..... remember with wicking that light and open water equals alque and fungus if not changed for a month.. great luck and grow big or grow mint!!:weed:

hey all ... i orginally started with wick but switched to eb & flow for one good reason.. if you make a mistake wtih wick you cant change it, your stuck with .. bad ph . or ppm till the plant sees fit to consume all of the water in the wick.. ebb & flow change the nutes ...flood ... problem solved... you cant jerk out the wick ,all you can do is wait....

Its def a system you have to control more than ebb and flow and what not.. but if your water has shitty ph its not gonna matter what system you use... I use it and it works great... nice yields and only one failure due to me not adding water to the resevior... and you can pull the wick if you want but only if its not attached to the root ball

I think net pirate had a wick. She is a poster here. I saw some hydro wicks and almost did not recognise thme as wicks. They are like 3 inches wide and a few millimeters thick. Seriously their might be a reason their isnt a lot of wicks out there. Lol, i am not in any way knowcking it. I am experimenting with ebb and dwc and still on my first harvest. I think ultimatly i will end up aero nft. Howver ebb is working for me. Little maintenance, and the oxy aont too bad. But look for those wide hydro wicks, maybe thy made them thmesleves. forget where i saw them
