Do you suppose Richard Petty watches the Weed Nerd?

I'd like nothing better then to climb into my time machine and go back to the Texas Jam 1978 and get high with Subcool. Memories, or lack of, I was there. Best concert ever. 13 top name groups, started about 10am finished about 2am. Temps reached 130 on the turf. Don't forget Ted Nugent, Boston, Blue Oyster Cult, Foreigner, Foghat, Heart, Sammy Hagar, Aerosmith, Head East, Triumph, Mahogany Rush, Thin Lizzy and Kansas, I believe. Cant find my ticket stub with the list, going on memory . 4th of July weekend. What a show.

Someone wanted to know TGA's most potent and best strains and Subcool mentioned it was too subjective because folks have different tastes. This is so true from my experience. I know what I like and when I reach in and rub a resin leaf about 4 weeks into flowing and do the old sniff test I know right then and there where the dank is. If the dank doesn't knock you on your arse at that point, it isn't really dank but be careful because even hemp can smell fruity at this point. Hemp in my area actually smells like a skunky Cindy 99 for a few weeks before it gets pollinated then when it finishes it wouldn't get a fly high.

The only thing I see missing is what all other seed sellers do with flower and vegetable seeds. Sell F-1 hybrids of inbred lines. Or offer pure breeder inbred lines. Of course this takes much more time and effort and is very expensive to do.

Talking about data mining, have you guys noticed Googles new privacy policy? They own Youtube and are linking all your stuff together.

Yup weed nerds would be best to avoid google. Not only do they data mine to figure out what you like, they also share their data with the government. Sooooo... how long til DEA starts doing queries on who on google likes weed...

Emery's seed bank was also well known for order screwups and not the greatest customer service :) There were some good genetics out there then... all the big european and dutch seed banks that are still around now were there then -- but there are a lot more now for sure

You ever go to the biggest party in texas late 80s in houston that randy quaid promote the shit out of? Pretty sweet one of the first outdoor concerts I went to as a teen where the smell of weed was heavy in the air. Stupid us just wanted alcohol at the time :)

Hey Sub and all the fellow weed nerds out there got a question for everyone. What are your thoughts on Veganics vs. Organics? i am using GO line of nutes and recently came to find out they are vegan so i did a little research and found a video by kyle kushman and it really intrigued me and im interested to know what everyone thinks on the whole subject.

Well, let me ask you green grower, do you really care if your organic nutes come from animal poop or not? I mean really...

I don't care, however I'm going on an all juicing diet for a few weeks.

I'm using go now cause its way too cold to make SS and it was only thirty shillings. Bout six days from harvest did a good job. No substitute for SS tho.

Just my opinion -- if vegan grow will make you feel better go for it but there's poop and decaying animals in nature -- all part of the cycle.

Sub, I was wondering if you can give us your thoughts on seed storage. I did a little looking around(probably not enough) and couldn't seem to find any depth on this subject from you. I was doing an inventory check the other night updating a list of all the genetics I have and it made me curious about the Weed Nerds thoughts on storage and genetic preservation. I have 112 different Genetics that I have collected over the last couple of years or so. I have always just kept them in a briefcase in the Breeders packs if I felt they were worthy enough and the rest in film canisters. Never had any trouble getting to germinate, though I haven't popped any of the older ones in a while. Only running TGA gear for the last year and a half with the occasional Blue Cheese bean every once in a while. Those are some of the oldest I have have, maybe 4 years old.

I keep my in the bottom doors of my refrigerator in a special container,I put rice in each back of seeds to help keep them from getting moist or anything.Everything seems to stay happy. Sub I think has a video talking about it and I think he said a dark,cool,DRY place is just fine,meaning closets or what have you. Im not sure what video it was but it was either a morning show or a earlyer weednerd.I think he talked about keeping dannys seeds or vice-versa in the same vid.

The fridge is actually one of the worst places to store beans. You need neutrality. Meaning a place where things don't change much. Temperature and humidity should be low and constant. I like to keep them sealed in somthing that can breath. They always say not to store in air tight film canisters. Older beans may be more difficult to germinate. I've found cheesecloth can pop just about any bean because it breathes and can dry out fast. You must keep it moist. Paper towels can suffocate seeds. Terrycloth works well too if it's not too wet. seeds should last 10 years or longer if stored well. It's all in numbers. If you have a handful, you'll always get some to pop.

A good idea is to run ten seeds of each strain, breed a male to a female and seed a plant. With that many seeds, you'll have those genetics for a very long time.

Let's talk about preserving clones in seed form. I've seen many clone only strains out there for one reason or the other and a lot of growers would like to have their favorite clone in seed form. Some say to force a clone to herm and make fem seed. This is not an easy thing to do and in some strains can create hermy plants. Some say to use a known male of something similar if it exists and cross it with your prize clone. Grow these out and cross a male back to the clone again. Grow these out and cross a male back to the clone again. Do this 3 times and you can get seeds that can be very much like the clone. What do you guys think on this subject?

Factors Affecting Seed Storage

Conditions essential to good seed storage are just the opposite of those required for good germination. Good germination occurs when water and oxygen are present at a favorable temperature. Good seed storage results when seeds are kept dry (below 8 percent moisture) and the temperature is kept low (below 40 degrees).
When seed moisture and storage temperature are low, the presence of oxygen has not been shown to be a factor in seed longevity. Germination is unaffected by storage in atmospheres of nitrogen, carbon dioxide, partial vacuum or air.

Relative humidity (RH) influences the moisture content of seed if it is not stored in moisture-proof containers. For example, at 15 percent RH, seed will dry down to 6 percent moisture and will store safely in this condition for several years. However, at 90 percent RH, seed will dry down to only 19 percent moisture and germination will be poor after one year.

it's called back crossing. its done all the time. though selfing(causing hermie via silver solution) is more common since it is easier and quicker.

I don't think you understand what I'm asking. The question is, is it better to make seed by selfing, or is it better to back cross using another male of different genetics? Your end goal is to make seed that grows like the clone you want to recreate.
