OK so I did not know if this was the corret sub-forum but whatever here it is.
I recently took a trip to Europe of all places. Socialist hell-hole.
Anyways my trip took me to Spain and then Italy.
I must say - the USA needs to get its act together. How?
The roads in Italy are the best I have ever seen. Seriously - as a former Texas resident- Texas roads suck. And Texas has amazing highways and impressive intersections and all that.... but the quality of the roads in iIaly, not just in the highway but within the cities...is amazing...
Public transport in Texas, and most of the USA to be honest is seriously behind. I went to Miami the other day and had to wait little over an hour for a bus..... same shit happened to me in TX all the time. Took 1.5 hours to get to a mall when it takes 1.6 hours walking..... most of the time I just rode a bike....
I stood in front of a train station in Milan and Rome and was in AWE. There are literally buses, airport shuttles, a metro station, trams, trolley buses and even the really old trolleys... all working seamlessly and all had passengers offloading and loading.... the efficiency, and the lack of cars on the road was something that I am still admiring..... we went to Barcelona by train, got off the train into the metro, out of the metro to a bus.... all there, all close, all working... the damn bus stops tell you how far out the next bus is....
I did not see a single pothole/not even a damn wobble on the whole drive from Milan to Florence......
Road construction was neat and organized. the highway and the sides of the highways were always impeccable. I mean what the hell is wrong with the USA???
How convenient is it to travel from city to city in a train that goes 400 km/h.....??? Let's just say that you show up to the train station 15 minutes before, pass security, and you get on the fucking train, you put your bags in yourself..... not leave 3 hours before, so you can be there 2 hours before, so you can check your bag, so you can spend an ungodly amount of time traveling...... the whole process is just so streamlined... each train car has 2 bathrooms and all the way in the front there's a 'restaurant/bar' car that you can walk to if you get tired of sitting... I mean that is how you are supposed to travel... relaxed, with options, flexible, and time saving......
the USA is still a good bet for a nice life - but the USA is seriously lagging behind the rest of the world in terms of infrastructure. When compared to Europe the USA is at least 15 to 29 years behind.... that's my guess. I went to smaller cities too - not just capitals or economic centers...
Ever heard of Spezia in Italy? Probably not - there are little under 100K residents in La Spezia proper..... and it has a fucking train stop for a train that links up with a station a few stops up that has a stop for high speed trains...... I mean the difference is night and day..... you cannot find a 100k resident city in the USA with active passenger trains passing several times a day that serve as commuter lines...
The overall state of infrastructure in the USA needs improvement. The USA has historically been the place that led. It led in interstate highways, led in bridges, tunnels, train tracks, best newest airports....
Now it seems the whole world is flying by on their very-comfortable high-speed trains, and sitting comfortably in their well-designed and executed public transport systems.... saving air travel for international destinations....
The USA just waits at TSA security lines, and eats In and Out in their Tahoes while sitting in endless traffic because there's no public transport....... all to pay for tax cuts...... which nobody seems to support except republican politicians...their base only votes because it's the 'White' thing to do...
