The Truth on Organic Growing

I am a new grower just starting out, who, today, was dissuaded from growing organically from the dude my local Hydroponic store. So thought I'd hit the forums for some answers.

Anyway, the dude at the store explained that, in his opinion, I should first start out synthetic. As when growing organic crop it may take as long as 3 days to see deficiencies, and being a first timer, I will definitely want to see any displays of deficiencies as early as possible.

I usually gravitate towards Organic products when I can, so naturally I wanted to grow organic crop. I know marijuana itself contains toxins, however, if I can avoid putting more / other toxins in the way that I tend to my crop, that would be ideal. So I ask - does growing organically really make a difference? Does it yield higher quality, optimum marijuana?

Growing synthetically I would be using the brand SUPERNATURAL - products such as Bud Blaster, Excellofizz, Aquapowders, Superleach, Ultimate Thrive, Super Boost, Bloom Aqua. Are these truly "natural" substances? Are they truly good products to use on my crop? I appreciate all help, as I am starting out and want to start out correctly.

Most grow shops don't want people to grow organic for a number of reasons, first and foremost money, they don't make any from organic growers after the equipment is purchased. Second is that they don't know much about organic growing. IMHO

So if you are a first time grower you want to make it as fool proof as you can RIGHT? Well using chems will eat up most of your time, tweaking this and tweaking that and running to get some new wonder shit every week. If that's what you want all the best.

Now if you just want to plant and water and sit back think organic. It's does not need to be complicated, just done right. What works for me

20% promix or sunshine (peat moss with per-alight)
20% Worm Castings
20% Coco
20% Real good gardening soil ( a mix is ok but soil is what you want)
20% sheep/cow compost, bone&blood meal,sea compost

I water with tea or water that's it.

I have grown just about every way you can and I grow in 4x4x1 raised beds lined with edpm liner (pond liner). I reuse the soil, i don't flush, no where to go but don't need to.
I grow more than I ever have with 15 times less work.

I water every 5 to 7 days, I add 1 table spoon of molasses for every gallon, that's it.

Good call on the money aspect, sounds dead on. Also think you're right that they don't know much about Organic Growing. Are you able to post pics of your Organic set-up? Do you have your plants in Organic beds? Any websites/books you can recommend to me? I own Soma Style Organic Growing, but need more step-by-step starting out help. Unfortunately most info I can find is for hydroponic growing.

Am I able to start a clone organically?

What additional tools will I need for organic growing? I have a Timer, Thermometer / Hygrometer, will I need a Ph tester? Does anyone know of a good Organic Growing Checklist?

that is pretty much the mix i wanted to use on my next grow...only problem...the nearest hydro store near me is about 4-5 hours away and is closed longgg before i can make it there.know any places online i can order any of this....ebay was a no go on most of it.and i was thinking of using fox farms ocean forest soil...would that be overdoing it with all the other amendments?

if your using fox farm soil mix's you'd better go with happy frog! - gl

I have been growing for about 9 years now and I have a 6 foot ppp growing in my back yard with buds growing all over it. I was in an accedent last year and have lost most of the mobility in my left arm but I wanted to grow this year. I needed a really easy way to do it so I just germinated a few seeds and put them in my garden. I have only fed them water and one turned out to be male but the other one is about 6 feet tall with buds comming in all over the place. I have never had it so easy. I am so happy with the progress of this crazy plant that I am going to do some this winter the same way but under some cfl's.

this is a thread close to my experience, organic is my instinctive way to go
but i had just gotten my seeds in, wanted to get started so i bought a bag of Miracle Grow Moisture Control soil
long story short, first plant died a mysterious death, some kind of deficiency/issue
onto organic, MG Organic Garden soil(no grudge against MG), 1 1/2 years later and haven't had a soil issue since
chemical soils have no attraction for me now

Organic is a good option for your first time. As it's a bit harder to burn the plants. But just remember less is more. And don't over water.

I grow with organic soil and ferts, but in soil. It is the business IMHO.

If you can't find some of the stuff you can substitute, more of one or split the difference between soil and what you can get. It is very hard to over feed when using bagged cow, sheep or what ever you have compost. Not fresh as it burns. Worm castings you can get from places that sell worms or worm wholesalers. Big box stores have most of what you need.

OP ... You grow how YOU want to grow ... Don't let some guy in a store stear you in any direction , It's one of them questions though , People who grow useing synthetic nutes will say its better and people who grow with organics will do the same .

It's really down to you , If your an organics kind of person ...then you should grow that way and use the formulations and methods that organic growers use ( The internet is flooded with info on how to grow organic ..so you will not be left wondering about anything )

BUT ...If your an organics kind of guy who wants bigger yeilds with more potent buds ... then you have to bite the bullet and go synthetic .

I hope to be doing a side by side grow sometime in the future ...so untill then i personaly cant say .

What i can say though is this .... The Guy in your hydro shop is wrong about the time it takes to notice problems , I dont think that has anything to do with what your feeding a plant ... the signs will show around about the same time .

Well I watched the vid, he is right about growing more and faster with chemical ferts, the issue is only about 5% know how to do it that well. The other 95% spend there lives tweecking this and that and running down to the shop to buy the new best bud in a bottle. I have been there and done that for years, it was hard to change and I made a few mistakes on the way but I grow 100% organic now, yes with fake sunlight. I grow more consistent, better tasting (aged in bottles for at least 3 months) and with very little time spent working on growing. I bet I spend 90% less growing this way. Yes I am lazy that's why I do it this way and it works fucking great. Like the hen with golden eggs. Once a year I spend 200$ in the fall buying all my supplies at 60% off instead of spending 500$ a month on chemicals. I have not had any bug problems in 4 years since switching, it's the worm castings (I'm sure it is)before I had spider mites once a year and fungus nats year round. So now I have more money for important shit like woman, drugs, booze and bikes. The rest I just squander. LMFAO

Might be something to do with the fact that the hydroponic store sells bottles of chemicals, not big bags of horse shit.

This has been really informative. Organic growing sound really interesting, and I agree with everybody who said its not in the best interest of hydroponics stores to promote it, doesn't mean you shouldn't try it.

Good to have a convert - I grow organically, doesn´t cost a lot.

We all vote with our money when we go to a store. If you don't buy it it will go away.

Most growers don't believe in tomorrow so they take the fast short way to grow. Chemical ferts.

We all make choices, some better than others.
