The smell of hay

Harvest was December 23rd. I cut and hung them for about a 5 days then promptly moved to jars. Twice a day I open the lid for a few minutes to let moisture out and fresh air in. It's now Jan 13th and it smells like hay. Why am I not getting that skunky dispensary smell I long for?

Sad :(

Skywalker, LA Shaman and Lemon Skunk. The LA Shaman smells weird, kinda like Cheese. Lemon Skunk smells citrusy. The Skywalker smells like dispensary stuff when you pinch the bud. All of them smell like hay though.

To get the cure right, the drying and curing environment has to be conrolled just as much as the growing environment is... I feel it's the most chalenging part of cultivation..

This happens sometimes if you don't let your stuff dry thoroughly before curing. Other than that possibly harvested too early? Not sure...

I harvested before trics went amber. Maybe a couple days early, but not that early. It seems like the more air I give it the more it smells like hay, so I'm going to only air out the jars once a day and see how it is by Sunday.

do you know what the humidity is inside the jars? you should open once every few days... hows the texture of the bud? does it feel dry, moist?

I open every other day there are some hygrometers you can put in your jars to insure a perfect cure.

get some trays and lay the buds out and cover for 24 hours and then take off for 24 repeat until dry then jars smell will come pretty fast

As long as you don't have any real thick, wet stems & you dried until outside was almost crispy, you should be fine. Mine was the same way, smelled like a bail of hay in the jar but super Dank when broken up. The curing process is nothing more than a slow dry. Sounds like your on the right track, just keep doin' what your doin' & only open once a day. Some buds need up to two months for a through, smooth cure. Hope it helps.

5 day's isn't long enough, to do the sweat cure properly you must do a slow dry for 2-3 weeks depending on humidity, then sweat cure in glass mason jars. That hay smell is mold spores from too much moisture (most likey). some strains naturally smell like hay or old socks butt it's rare. If you wanna do a quick fix take it out of the mason jars and dry the hell out of your buds. Then putt the buds back into a bag or jars and add a slice or two of apple. let the buds suck the moisture from the apple. this will give your buds more of a fruit aroma besides hay. You can forment your buds with other types of fruit butt ive only tryed apple. The buds should be bone dry so they dehydrate the fruit. sweat curing with this will evenly distibute the knew fruity moisture. if you squeeze your bud after you dry it out a bit more and smell it , you should still be able to woft the smell your buds are suppose to be.

keep curing. as long as they aren't bone dry, the curing process will be bring out that oh-so-familiar funk. i harvested about 2 months ago, and i had the same issue.
