The Noobie Grow Off

Well, I switched to my 400 watt MH today. The 1000 watt I think was just too much. I was a skeptic that plants could get too much light but I think I'm a believer now. Even though my temps were 75-78 deg F. they were still gettin scorched in the middle of the canopy. I think I'll go with a 600 watt ushio next time around.

Beginning of week 6

Things I went through? Not enough light, calcium deficiency, nute burn, and the heat stress.. They overall look pretty good though!

So, how did you go about creating such a fantastic bush on your first go around?
I only topped once, it was mostly from defoiling durring veg. Every time I deleafed her, all the lower side branches grew to be the top dogs. I am a firm believer of atleast defoiling durring veg.

I too just did my first grow and to be honest although I had some specific methodologies I cannot say that after 1 grow that I am a "firm believer" in anything. I can tell you though that I am a firm believer in the fact that this is not really your first grow (do you think your past postings are not searchable and thus protected against blood splatter) and thus if you can bullshit about that then I have to wonder about the rest. o_O Christ on a cracker, Dex.

At least when tekdc911 showed up claiming noob status ( ) he admitted to having a number of grows and years under his belt.

I started off with 3 bag seeds and gave the aero table a trial run, then when things were sailing smooth I transplanted them outside I then threw in my good seeds (plants you see in previous thread)
Prior to this I have thrown a bag seed in backyard dirt and fed water over 10 years ago when in high school, but never harvested anything. I still have never harvested anything before.

The bagseed plants I started off with that I transplanted outside are not ready.for harvest yet. So to me this is still my first grow. No need to be a prick. Im honered that you thought there was no way a newbie did what I did. I refuse to have a pissing match with you, Im just stating the facts.

thats my bro and I can vouch that it is in fact his first grow!
He threw some bag seeds in his aero tub waiting on his gear in the mail then transplanted outside.
Don't be a hater man, just because you may not have been as successful or didn't take advantage of the surplus of knowledge and info out there....

First, can I suggest a Midol? Second, come on "bro"s...I am a hater because you drop in, say its your "first grow". Produce a "styled" plant not indicative of most first grows. Make some statements not likened to be made by someone on their first grow and then I do one search and the first thing that pops up is:

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. Ive grown half ass for several years. Started an indoor lower pressure aeroponic and soil grow a couple days ago. Was thinking about starting a grow journal to compare soil vs aero and get help if problems arrive. Things seem to be going smooth. I feel like a bad ass scientist in my lab. Cant stay out of the room. Im so caught up in this and having a blast.
Sorry, for not understanding that no where in your "half ass" growing over the last "several years" can a "first grow" be found.

Over an above that. You have some super plants and it would be great if you shared your defoliation techniques as well as your topping techniques you utilized when creating them. Big defoliation schism here with lots of opinion so don't firm up your beliefs too soon. 8-)

Ok, I can see why you would say that. When I first joined this forum I didnt wanna sound like such a newbie so I threw that statement out there. However I was basically germing bag seeds in papper towls and planting them in the dirt. This was my first attemp at growing indoors with actual required equipment such as a mh/hps light. Reguardless, I saw this thread and was eager to share as I am very proud of the work I put in. I topped once at the 8th node then lst`d it until the main stem was sideways. They were so bushy that I felt I had to defoil. I went off another growers advice online and I defoiled pretty heavily 2 times in veg. Each time I noticed explosive growth from the lower tops within 48 hours. From there I only defoiled the highest stems which slowed them down a little and alowed the lower ones to catch up. I have defoiled a few times in flower because there was just so many budsites that were covered by such a crazy canopy.
Now Ive researched defoiling until my brain hurt. I dont know if it has negative effects durring flowering or not as this is the only time ive made it this far into flowering, but Im sold durring veg being that I personally have never seen a canopy like that.
My personal (unprofessional) opinions about defoiling during flower is that it may make your colas a little less beefy but yet bigger non popcorn buds more then make up for that in a higher yeild. Hope there is no hard feelings. Im just here to learn and share what I learn.

Day 43 Master Kush. Here are some pics of my best plant. Sorry I don't have a better camera. But it is Frosty! I'm really disappointed in my node spacing. I don't have any big colas. I had bigger colas in my first grow with 12in plants.
