The Morning Stack

I am a college student and I have all 8 am classes this semester. Recently I have been waking up around 5:45 6 to wake up early. I love the feeling of my 20mg ir Ritalin waking me up with a tight ass joint and a doughnut shop coffee. I love being up, showering, eating, and doing missed work but my Ritalin wares off it causes my tolerance to sky rocket around 11. Is this avoidable or at least "treatable"?

im prescribed it twice a day and i normally only take it once in the morning since that's when i like to do my work. I actually have ADHD and Ritalin is a blessing. iv been taking it for about 12 years without problem.
Yes and of course you do everything every authority figure tells you to do right? LOL :) I'd listen to Bu$h here! I'd also start running. That will do a lot of what the Ritalin did.

12 years on prescriptions and your only 18, holy shit I would never allow this to happen to my son. Look for natural alternatives to pills.

and once you break that addiction you can sell those pills to other college students and have money to live on.

I looked into a lot of natural alternatives with my parents in the past. They worked but not to the extent which would make them beneficial on their own. thankfully my parents were very careful with the medications. They dispensed it to me all through grade school and high school and brought me to a bunch of doctors looking for the negative side effects. the mainstream ADHD stims have helped me immensely. i was just wondering if anybody knew a way to stop Ritalin from increasing your bodies tolerance to THC

ok so if im getting this right
youre prescribed ritalin for the last 12 years and now you cannot focus with it because your tolerance?

college can be an extremely stressful period for anyone add or adhd or not, so i can certainly sympathize with your efforts to wanting the ability to continue your studies in a productive manner.

since it would appear you have no interest in quitting your prescribed medications
you should first and foremost speak with your doctor while we have many health professionals on board were not your doctor we do not know your history it is apparent your medication is not working effectively

secondly you need to realize you cannot rely on medication all the time to make yourself productive, you need to learn how to focus to your best abilities in able to succeed in your studies this isnt going to come overnight and certainly will most likely be something you need to constantly strive with.

I also suggest working with a peer to peer tutor in school, not because you need tutoring but because you need someone who can understand your current mental state and keep you focused on the right track, usually colleges provide peer to peer tutors at no cost,
those students are there to you, so take advantage of it and use it.

Another suggestion is a mental health counselor in your tuition fees you have a plethora of student needs that almost no students use because they do not know they are there.
There is most likely someone who is a mental health counselor there who can help you create goal settings and action plans in order to help you succeed.
heres a few tips for self success

I would suggest you take a break from marijuana, clearly at this point youre just at a tolerance level too high and you need to take a break it is most likely not from the ritalin itself, breaks in marijuana can be beneficial , just take a week or two off it.

you can develop a tolerance to Ritalin? and yes sunni i am already enrolled in my schools OSS (office of special services) and all that jazz. just sucks feeling like i cant focus. people don't understand the struggle of being adhd. thankfully i dont have any of the other learning disablities commonly associated with it and a good IQ. so in class i know i can comprehend the content just no pay attention thats frustrating part.

You can develop a tolerance to any drug.... that's part of it. And the longer you take it, the more you'll rely on it.
