The Lost Art of Foliar Feeding

The purpose of Epsom salt it to soften up water and give a small bump of magnesium sulfate. Plus when soils or water tanks start to get high levels of potassium the plant may tend to lock out magnesium at the root level, so it will still take it threw the leaves. I stop my foliar feeding once I see bud formations about a 1/4" dia. Cool It works on any type of growing set up. The only time I have had any mold problems was due to high humidity and lack of air flow, or the plant immune system is week and not producing it natural enzyme to help it attack mold. I forgot this one spraying your flower in the last couple of weeks with RO water, that's always a good mold promoter. If you foliar spray with a nice balanced nut with potassium silicate added will really make the plant very strong and healthy.
I wouldn't folier any silicate, but then again I know about Silicosis cough cough., Google it. Edibles ok, sure finely powdered silicates ok, but smoking them, not for me, or my patients I help out. Be sure to inform whoever you give your meds to anything you folier like silicats, bug spray, ect. Of course just because you inform them doesn't mean they will inform who they give it to. I recently posted on another forum about guys taking sheet rock and using it as a medium, the topic was about asbestos, I posted a link abut all the chemicals in it from china that eat up wiring, pictures on the wall ect. and a link to the law suits from the thousands of people sick.

Now imajine one of your buddies just happens to have breathing problems and he reads an article in the newspaper or the net about some product you spray on your buds, or put in your soil. He ask's his doc in the ER. "say I've been smoking some "medicine" and read this article, you think that has anything to do with it?" Next thing you know you've got Dept of health and all the antil MMJ folks up your ass. So I'd stay away from that one and research everything you spray that will go into your lungs and probably someone else s who may have cancer.

Sorry, but "chemical" is not a dirty word, unless you're a greenie ideologue. What in the hell do you think makes "organics" work? That's right, chemicals. If organics weren't composed of inorganic minerals aka chemicals, they would be useless to the plant.
I don't care what method people use to cultivate their own, if they are happy then that's all that matters, it's up to each individual to wade thru all the shit about growing. If we learn the properties of whatever man made ferts, or organics we use and apply them in a "safe" scientific fashion based upon sound plant biology, great.

I personally like airy buds, they smoke better IMHO, but I get lots of dense ones as well if I like. As an advocate for MMJ it bums me when I blieve it doesn't just ease my pain but also makes me a more tolerant to other ideas, it seems from the forums I lurk that isn't the case, I hope it's the minority that fight.

I'm always looking to learn something new, so I keep an open mind, IMHO there are a lot of methods, Ive been a diehard Fatman believer for quite some time, his posts are what led me here. I know what you are thinking "he just talked about everybody getting along", well yes, but there is a bit of politics in it with Fatman, we've seen others make pretty offensive comments and remain.

I've been flamed on another forum, held my ground and accepted an apology after the dust settled. So as Rodney King so Elequently stttttttttated "cccccant we all just get along"lol Now I've digressed because I'm feeling rather talkative, or tipetive, lol, sorry digressed again.

Now if someone who isn't up on running with a low RH from 35-45, tries dropping their RH just because they hear I do and goes as low as I do, they will crash and burn, plants will suck up too hot of nutes. Why? because they didn't get the complete picture,of everything I do, the symbiotic relationship even with sterile hydro, or simi sterile lol. I don't folier (but rarely) because of wanting to keep a real low RH and want to keep my stomata open. They don't see the whole picture of why I do it, and that when I do one thing I have to adjust another..

Lets face it some of us mix nutes, some buy them premade in a jug because of various reasons, some of whom are just starting out, and need to be encouraged by our being able to agree to disagree. Some of you guys, and the stuff I see you produce,,, amazing,,,. sorry I digress, lol.. I only folier if the plants are locked up or something like that, but I'm sure it works for others running differently than I am.

How do you guys feel of someone being wheelchair bound or other mobility problems folier feeding for therapy? or a Vet feeling a bit closer to their plants, hell my wife feeds our dog table scraps event though our vet says not to lol. To each his own, so long as it's safe. Especially for the plants, plant safety is important, you know when you plants lock leaves? Never, I mean never let them tear eachothers leaves off,, plant fighting should be banned.. Sorry I digress

One thing about man made firtz, I see all kinds of organic people taking vitamins, aren't they processed? A lot of what we use, magnesium, calcium, ect. is processed, I don't think I see to many people taking guano capsules, need iron suck on a rusty nail, nope. that would taste like shit, well the bat guanno and chicken shit anyway. lol Ive used them but with a legitimate disability, I prefer less work cleaning shit. No pun, just a preference, good enough for NASA and the AG industry feeding millions lol But what do I know, I wonder if NASA is ever going to send chickens and bats into space for their hydro program?

i read the first page and didnt want to look through 49, so does anyone want to tell me if you feed the root system anything, as well as foliar feed

I foliar feed my outdoor plants in veg every morning and I feed the roots nutes every other watering. If you foliar feed every day make sure to "rinse" the leaves with plain water at least once a weak to prevent salt buildup.

how often am i supposed to spray them?
and if i would regularly feed them a gallon of nutes through the soil, would i replace the soil feeding with foliar? and how much am i supposed to spray on them, a gallon? lol
or do i feed through soil as well as a little bit of foliar feeding daily.
i have powdery mildew right now so im thinking of doing the milk/water solution to fix this.
and is it okay to foliar feed with just plain water that has been ph'd?

The lost art of foliar feeding

One of the things I see most people asking about how to increase their bud size, they want the newest big bloom gut buster on the market, and run out to send large amounts of money on it.

FOLIAR FEEDING is the easiest and cheapest ways to increase your size and weight, I use Miracle Grow for foliar feeding plants it works great, but just about any water soluble fertilizer will do. I take that the bottle says per gallon and dived it by 8 and that’s what I start per gallon on new just rooted clones or seedlings that have a true set of leaves. Mist very lightly in the first week.
In the second week I start to drench the leaf system with foliar spray, this will do a couple of things.

1.The plant will start to grow like hell this is due to the fact that it is taking in water and Nitrogen threw the leaf system.
2.This also makes the plant intake more fertz in the root and micro root level.
3.It will make the plant stem system stronger from the extra weight of water it is trying to keep the leaf system up. (Heavier Buds)
4.The best part is it helps keep the bugs from invading your plant, Mites do not like foliar sprays with fertz in them.

I try to foliar feed the plants on their wake up cycle doing this daily will grow big ass buds and monster plants.

The third week I step up the fertz to ¼ tsp per gallon and every week after I step it up until it is full strength or the plants shows signs of over nut burn, whichever comes first.
Also threw out the day you can mist with water to help the plant take more of the dried on Fertz and this also keeps the humidity up a little bit.

Now the flower cycle foliar feeding, I like to use Miracle Gro Bloom Booster with Superthrive.

I mix the bloom booster full strength and add ¼ tsp of superthrive per gallon of water and foliar feed with this for up to four weeks in flowering. Of course this is all dependent on the strain and flower time.
Superthrive does have growth hormones that do get absorbed in the leaf system right were the plant will be blooming and could possibly make the root system a little stronger. Since Superthrive has never been tested in a lab on Mary Jane, we can only go off of what it has been tested on.

I also add 1/4 tsp of dish soap per gallon to help the plant soak up nut threw the leaves by keeping the water wetter longer on the leaves.

Here is my full foliar mix during veg per gallon, the red is the minimum and the blue really kicks the plant into over drive:

1 tsp Miracle Gro all purpose plant food 24-8-16 (any water soluble plant food will work)
1/4 tsp (1ml) Superthrive
1/2 tsp (2ml) Dyna-Gro Pro-Tekt 0-0-3

1/4 tsp Epsom salt
1/4 tsp dish soap
1/4 (1ml) Folic Acid I use Humboldt Nutrients FlavorFul but any brand will work
1/4 (1ml) Humic Acid I use Humboldt Nutrients HumBolt but any brand will work
1/4 (1ml) Enzyme I use Humboldt Nutrients ProZyme but any brand will work

Here is my full foliar mix during Bloom per gallon, the red is the minimum and the blue really kicks the plant into over drive, I due this until I see a 1/4"DIA size buds on the top colas then I stop:

1 tsp Miracle-Gro Bloom Booster 15-30-15
1/4 tsp (1ml) Superthrive
1/2 tsp (2ml) Dyna-Gro Pro-Tekt 0-0-3
1/4 tsp Epsom Salt
1/4 tsp dish soap
1/4 (1ml) Folic Acid I use Humboldt Nutrients FlavorFul but any brand will work
1/4 (1ml) Humic Acid I use Humboldt Nutrients HumBolt but any brand will work
1/4 (1ml) Enzyme I use Humboldt Nutrients ProZyme but any brand will work
1 tsp (5ml) sweet carbohydrates I use Humboldt Nutrients Humboldt Honey but any brand will work
1 tsp (5Ml) Ginormous 0-18-16 this is made by Humboldt and it does what it claims

P.S. This is the same nut I feed all my dirt based plants and is use the same nut for the foliar, I like to keep it simple.

I hope you guys like this it has served me well for over 15 years.
When preparing a foliar or soil application for that matter using "Dyna-Gro Pro-Tekt" in the mix read the instructions...The "Dyna" should be first ingredient added to the water..."Pro-Tekt" is amazing product for plant immunity as well as healing plant damage...FWIW

just dont foliar feed buds.. stop foliar before the stretch ends. usually i stop 10 days into 12 12 .. never any problems.. and my last 2 sprays 1 .. is a plant cleaner that has a thing in it to help the plants also.. and then i spray once with water.. and im done.

Take a fat tub put water in it and some fox farm and let it sit for over a month before feeding also with a lump of coal in the bottom.

Foilar feeding has been dropped from my arsenal completely. Our indoor enviorment with all the humidity and heat generated, foilar feeding can bring problems, big problems, quickly.

I mist clones only...now.

Spraying has been invaluable to me...not only to encourage growth but to protect my plants as well. The leaf has 8x the absorbtion speed as the roots, the question should be how and what are misting onto your girls. I use seaweed extract, fulvic acid, even beneficials, as well as store bought products that I can spray with the lights on. Rarely, I will apply a comprehensive formula in spray form. I like the immediacy of the reaction....basically we are all trying to grow plants that thrive, if done correctly that will happen. It makes a difference, a big one.

What's in it? Do you know, do you care?

Ahhhhhh, here we go again, hah!

"Liquid Light foliar spray is designed to dramatically improve the way your plant processes your HID or flourescent lighting. Amazingly, it gives your plants the equivalent of up to 60% more usable light!

Liquid Light is a formula of selected Amino Acids, Metabolites, and Phospholipids that works by supercharging the chloroplasts, tiny specialized cells in the leaves of your plant that processes light and give them their natural green color."

What a total crock of bullshit! To add insult to injury, $60.00/liter. Are you kiddin' me? Do you have to be a dumbnuts to join RIU these days?

"For best results use with Dutch Master Penetrator!"

Well of course, we gots to be Penetrated some mo', yah sah! The first back doorin' wasn't enuff!

all i can suggest is to find something you like and backcross it so you don't have to worry about the hassle of buying seeds anymore. They're all mutts with a few exceptions. I'm growing o. Haze now, ten year old original seeds from tfd, and they're about as pure sativa as it gets. Topped again today plus used a pgr drench to help shorten the internodes regarding the stretch which has recently kicked into high gear.
6-bap?????

it shouldnt, keep a watch on them and have water close by to flush it if indeed it yellows them after a day r so... but great thread!!!
