The klx Way!

The risers in my flood and drain fittings raise the flood level 35mm. I have used 1 and 2 and did not notice any difference in yields. If you lift the lid and watch during a flood what you will see is the roots all floating around in the nutrient, especially during the first few weeks of flower. Then when it drains they all just follow the laws of gravity. And thats why proper flood trays are good because they have the grooves and hold some water between floods.
You think having groves to keep water in the table is good? I thought you’d want all the water out to get oxygen to all the roots?

It is literally like 5mm of liquid and the rest of the area under the lid is oxygen. The little bit of water creates a lovely humid environment in there. It it never gets stale either as in 15 or 30 mins or whatever the new flood begins again. You could just flood continuously as well. Flood, drain, flood, drain the tweaks and experiments are endless.

I was wondering how I would manage to make groves in a custom flood table with timber and a Epdm liner... I don’t think it would be worth the hassle to have groves. I’m thinking of flooding every 45 mins

Cheers bud,

In relation to this smart home stuff,

I’m looking for something that is smart like the smart plug or that smart valve that I can control to move a bolt back and forth to make a custom bolt lock on a door .

so far I’m toying with the idea of using the smart Valve and having the bolt swivel instead of moving back and forth but can’t help but think there would be a better way?

No idea to be honest.

I’ve managed to rig a cool locking system with the smart valve. Works great.

for your flood tables do. You have any issues with roots clogging/growing down the riser?
Sometimes roots do head down there. It does need periodic checking. I just pull them back up the drain then kinda fold them back under themselves. I can imagine it would be an issue if you left it for weeks but for me it has never been an issue with occasional checks.

Onto my next smart design...
I don’t suppose you have any ideas of what I can use for controlling hieght of my lights?

I have something in mind but don’t know what you’d actually call it to search for it.

I imagine something looking sort of like a light mover but vertically rising instead of moving horizontal so a gear with a sort of chain moving a “ledge” up and down that you can sit the light on. And you’d have one in each corner of the fixture?

Fly rigging is how I would go for auto light lifting.

just read this whole thread in 2 days. after doing my first organic run i feel like i am done with soil again lol bugs after fkn bugs! this mediumless idea is like heaven to me lol. even though organics is so damn easy just top dress and water.. sigh

thinking of converting a 10x10 room into 3 2x8 trays along the walls like a U shape and run 6x320 watt meiju 2x4 lights over them in a perpetual 3 stage grow. and maybe a 2x2 light in middle of room if i get greedy lol

loved this giant thread and look forward to following it more also what strains are in your stable right now moms and favs ? im searching thru some blue dreams wedding cakes few strawberry coughs and do si do cuts for suitable moms wont be a bit till i can produce enough clones

Hey mate, nothing wrong with growing organic but for sure you have to be pro active with the IPM. Every method has its pros and cons the key is put in the work and you will get the results no matter what method you use.

Those are some very nice strains you are hunting I dont think you could ask for any more. Right now I have some Demo F2 phenos keepers that I kept alive, plus a male and a couple other strains. I have a lot of seeds both new strains and back ups so will start popping them in the new year. I will be building a new, bigger room as well to house two 4x8 flood trays but will take some time to get up and running properly. In the mean time I got a few plants here and there just to keep some weed around.

Good luck with your grows take it easy

Will do man...unless I am in jail ;)
Hey klx, hope you're not in jail.
Found this thread, loved your grow style and I'm planning to do a very similar set up in the next couple months here. Because I'm an idiot, generally speaking, I adore simplicity.

Couple questions, what did you have running for lungs in this set up, and where on earth did you find those sweet diffuser/semi filter looking things for your table intake and outtake pipes?
I've spent quite a bit of time googling and coming up dry..... probably because I don't know the proper name.

Any light you can shed would be amazing, and I'm looking forward to seeing your new grow!

Hi mate,

I guess you mean ventilation when you talk about lungs or do you mean lung room? For ventilation in the flower room I had 8 inch hyperfan with carbon filter for intake and 10 inch hyperfan with carbon filter for extraction. They were run at about 30% most of the time. New space will be sealed and have a split AC and added CO2 so I will be able to control the environment better and be less reliant on ambient conditions.

The intake and out take pipes on the tables are called flood and drain fittings (or ebb and flow fittings). They are standard at any hydro shop or online.

Here are a couple pics of my current small tent grow while my build out slowly progresses. 2 plants in a big pot of coco at about 7 and a half weeks of flower.

Right on mate, glad to hear the new build is coming along.

Was humidity an issue with your last flowering room? I've been looking at dehumidifiers/AC combo units as well.

Found those flood/drain fittings, my local hydro guy hooked it up.

I'll definitely stay tuned on your thread for more updates on your new space. :D

Thanks again for sharing the knowledge, you're awesome!!!

No worries man thanks for the nice words.

Yes, I live in a sub tropical region so yes humidity is high (>80%) all through summer. I ran a dehumidifier constantly but would set it at 70% for early flower then 60% mid flower and 50% late flower. I would highly recommend a dehumidifier at a minimum. That combined with lots of circulating fans to really move the air around and bud rot was never an issue. The odd plant would get some PM but I would cull those after 1 run.
