It does smell wonderful...smoked some this morning for first buzz of the day and I doubt these pieces are gonna get a chance to age very much..ha...is curing mandatory for this type of hash?..or am I losing out by smoking it now?...the flowers frm this harvest just went into jars last nite so haven't fully cured for aroma and flavor yet so haven't had a chance to compare.

I have never met yet anybody curing his Ice Water Hash but I think it should be mandatory to take care of any moisture left. It does also enhance the flavors.

Yeah I don't think there was much moisture in this...my hands were very dry...the kief was dry..the room wasn't humid...I left it out over nite anyway....it pretty much has the texture of a tootsie roll today...solid but stil bendable and I'm sure if I wanted to stretch it out and remold it or re ball it up I could and it would remain intact

My man...thanks...everything u watch on you tube and around the net they just press in the lil puck compressors...the just press and push out and say its done...they don't heat...I'm glad ur teaching the correct method cause somthing w such a history and tradition deserves enuf respect to be done the correct way....I will share this knowledge w anyone that wants to learn it but I will not share my hash...ha...just kidding this stuff is definately for the ultra personal stash tho....I can see getting cuaght up in this whole hash making thing..do u grow frenchy...and if so is it only for hash making or have u lost ur appreciation for flowers and just focus on the hash?...w so much hash flowing around I can see myself pushing flowers to the side....u stil smoke buds?

As a Frenchy Hash was what I smoked for most of my life. Since being in Cali I became to appreciate flowers and I do smoke flowers on a daily basis but mixed with Hash. I do grow my medecine and not for Hash making only.

My main questions now involve your post-trimming pre-hashing/collecting steps. How is the recommended way to trim and dry/store trim specifically for making IWE then pressed hash? You mentioned to store fresh in the fridge, and use it quickly with a bit more "work" (ie runs/time) in the agitation stage to get fresh trichs to release... Anything else you can tell me about preparing the plant material for hash making would be a huge help to my hashmaking process! I live where its hot hot in summer and cold cold in winter if that matters.
I currently have been doing fresh freezing as recommended in Matts IWE thread, but I understand when you say that the freezing may be rupturing the glands and possibly mucking up some chlorofil before I even start extracting. I have a machine, bag set, living organic trim and the willingness to learn how to make better hash than I thought was possible. Everyone loves my Matt method products, but more flavor and coating of the mouth with terpenes sounds like a sweet upgrade to me, well worth extra work to press and properly finish it! Years ago when I used to press my bubble I started adding mild heat to the press (to make removing the puck from the press smoother) and it made the hash much better, can't wait to do it right via your instructions! I did say fridge but instead of freezer since most people who freeze their trims do it to keep them fresh, fresh and frozen are world apart in any dictionary you care to check.
If you cannot process your trims fresh, the best would be to let them dry like flowers, nice and slow, in paper bags or plastic if you are careful to turn them around that it dry evenly, again be gentle with them.
I do not like frozen trims NOT BECAUSE it may be rupturing the glands BUT BECAUSE it ruptures the structure of the leaves which brings the chlorophyl in the equation.
Your press is not a good tool to make quality press i am sorry to say, it is only a "pre-press" hash at best that you are making, export type. Quality is done by hand, with a heat of 220 and for a good 20 minutes hard work, remember you are not only pressing you are also doing a decarboxylation, try it and let me know about the experience and end results.

I'll say it again, I do prefer fresh because of my years in india, it is closer to charas which is quite different from hashish.
I do not recommend doing it because it is more work and more "delicate" of an operation, texture of the trichomes is often really different. It requires a lot of experience.
