The first "official" post for my new/first grow...

I am using a pretty nice grow tent purchased from the local shop. It is two/two and six foot tall. I have a T5 CFL that supposedly produces 8,000 lumens. I have six clear Solo cups (four feminized Nirvana White Rhino and two "free" seeds from Nirvana). Five have broken the surface and look pretty good so far. I'm only a couple of days in. I'm using Aurora Roots Organic soil and will mist with a sprayer every other day or so. The room itself is relatively cool (70 degrees or so) and the light does not seem to be very hot. It's about 4-5 inches from the plants at this point. I'll be posting pictures in the next day or two so y'all can comment on my setup.

Now, here's my real question at the moment - I did not mark the feminized seeds from the "free" seeds (yes, I know - idiotic!) and so I am unsure exactly which are which. How long can I go with 4-6 plants in this area before I'm going to have to cull the herd? Long enough to figure out which are White Rhino (since they were all feminized seeds)?

Secondly, I'm a little concerned that my tallest sprout is stretching. I'm not even sure how to tell, but it's fairly tall for having such little leaves. Do I need to worry about this yet? The light is pretty close to the top of the plants, but I suppose it could be closer.

Thanks in advance to all the great people on this forum! I'm looking forward to keeping you updated on my grow and to posting some photos soon. I'll keep using this thread, in case you're interested in following me.

Appreciate it...

Welcome to RIU DbD< and congratulations on the new grow.

You are not going to have to worry about culling the herd for a while. You won't even know wether it's a male or female till ya flip the timer to 12/12, and then it will probably take another 10 days for them to show sex.

As for the seedling, not sure what's happening. I would not put that much light any closer than they are. If it keeps stretching you can lst it or upcan it anbury it to the first set of leaves. That will promote new root growth.

Hope this helped!

Keep em green!!!!

Thanks for your input! My real question is, how long will I have room for all of these plants? Ideally, I would be able to spot the White Rhino and "know" those are female. I have six seedlings in there now. I'm assuming in a 2' by 2' space I can only grow three or so. Is that about right?

If you know that you will have females, and your space is 2x2, I would go with 2. I have a 150 watt HPS and 2 girls and that is about max. I maybe able to put a third but it is comfortable where its at now. My area is 2.5x2.5x4 tall. This is just totally my opinion! I'm going to add CFL's for grow #2 Good Luck!bongsmilie

I am using a T5 fixture rated for 8,000 lumens for the veg stage. Do you think this will be sufficient when I begin to flower (either 2 or 3 plants). I've considered adding another T5 fixture and/or maybe some CFL's. I really don't want an external ballast. What do y'all think? I'm assuming what I have now will be great for vegging.

Thanks!

Absolutely, you are set for vegging!! You can definitely flower with your current set up as well, but it seems that your buds will not be as robust. Now, that is just what I gathered from reading around this site. I use an HPS ballast and light, and my change for the 2nd grow will be to add 2 CFLs. The HPS is good because it has like an almost "harvest sun" light spectrum, which is excellent for bud development. During my vegging, I had some stretching going on, but I compensated for this by keeping my light as close as I could to my plants without burning them. T5s are a good route, but try to get some yellow spectrum to your setup for the buds. I'm gonna throw some pics up later. I'm almost to week 4 of flowering some good bagseed, and its my first grow. Very happy and can't wait to smoke this! Take care!bongsmilie

Well, finally here are some pictures. Very interested in everyone's thoughts on the plants. Three were planted about the same time (one week ago) and the other two were done about 3-4 days ago. Eventually, I'll have to choose only a couple (maybe three, tops) to keep going with. What do y'all think?
