the cause of fluffy buds?

how come this happens?

usually its weak light. indoors not enough wattage, outdoors not enough direct sunlight. in some cases it can be nutrients, but it almost always comes down to the light.

That's what I've heard/seen... not enough/ adequate light... also it seems going hydro makes fluffier buds, not that you can't get dense buds with hydro, but grow the same strain in hydro set up and outdoor and there IS a difference. I've only seen this comparison with a few strains, but that's enough for me.

Most likely for fluffy buds I go in this order. Genetics, Heat/humidity, Light, Nutrients

i have 1 plant in my garden with fluffy top colas, higher than the rest of the plants. i attribute this to high heat. as my other plants tops and popcorn nuggs are dense. i also have curled bud leaves on that plant and mutated growth. they are still good but fluffy and gnarled. i decided not to use my air extractor. noob move. i know better for my next grow. i still have plenty of good and dense buds this time though. goodluck

You could look into a product called humboldt gravity. Is supposed to make buds more dense, also.. Harvesting a plant too early will result in fluffy buds.

i think heat is a major factor... my last grow was during the dead ass dog days of summer, and i was really struggling with my temps, and one of my strains buds were looser than they usually are, plus they took forever and a day to finish..

I think the first important factor is the genes. Some strains just get only fluffy bud. (if not the whole strain then phenotypes).
And then i'd go for the lighting even though i have a Jack H. pheno that will get denser bud when further away from lights. When close to lights it will grow "shooters" and make fluffy buds.

What up??? Anyways there are a number of factors that lead to fluffy nugs!

1) Light: If your bulb is older than 2 cycles, need a new one!
2) Heat: anything above 85 degrees causes fluffy buds, need exuast
3) Nutes: Over Nuting is also a common problem, FLUSH, FLUSH and more FLUSH
3) Sugars: Adding mollasses, gravity, sugar daddy ect, plumps buds up!
4) Genes: Lol, every noob never checks this and is always confused later!!!


This is just a small list I have encountered while growing!

Iv had issues with this also, luckily the temps outside are alot cooler now compared to a few weeks ago but the excess heat has made my tallest colas fluffy and taking forever to finish.

it always amazes me how newbie's can dig up these old threads.... but at least Brak is quoting a current member, which is a big plus
