You think they havent "printed" multiples of the national debt since 08 and put it into circulation? Why hasn't that crippled the currency? Why couldn't we just "print" a shitload of money to repay any external bondholders and forget the debt entirely?
Because the thing that mainly affects the value of the dollar on international markets is the economic output of the nation.
