Update: 09/Apr/2016

My contestant cup is doing good, having to water everyday, looking ok so far.
a001.jpg

Test cup is way out of control, had to bend down the main branch just so it could get light, it has been a few years since I messed with a hydro setup, I guess I forgot how much faster it grows, and less maintenance it is to run.

Contestant cup is the one on the left.

Best of luck to everyone, and I see some really nice cups, job well done guys and girls..

Yeah. It's the same only different.:eyesmoke:
It was caramel candy kush. It's on my list to do a regular run with it.
Good looking little plant. I thought the same thing about my bulldog haze till i flowered a bigger one lol. Flowering took 4 weeks or so longer to finish. Still a great plant and the bigger plant definitely brought out better big and calyx structure. I like that I ran the one so did this run because I've been sitting on these Tahoe master beans for like 2 years. Crossed them and have been stuck running testers/only fems for a while. Then this cup I figured why not and decided to make f2s due to how pretty both the male and female turned out.

And people are still playing with their fingles in the dirt indoors why?:hump:
I've got some living soil brewing, but that's more for personal experimentation than anything else. My hydro kills it as far as growth rate and yield per watt or sq foot. Soil definitely adds something to the flavor though. Not good or bad necessarily, I just notice a different and I have a theory that some strains may benefit by either being in hydro or soil in regards to taste. I'll know in about 3-4 months as far as primary testing results go.

But as far as why everyone doesn't. Probably maintenance, intimidation factor, and when things go wrong they go wrong fast. Not much give in hydro.

Random power outages...and i have been having great yields in living soil using nothing but water+calmag
Also last rdwc grow left a bad taste in my mouth, had one monster plant from clone and buds turned out small and the flavor just wasnt there, probably the worst plant i have ever had for yield and quality, still not sure what went wrong. Plant looked super healthy but the buds never got big in hydro, and they did in soil, maybe ec was too high, was pushing 2.2 with no burn

Haha yeah, In dwc lower ec is generally better in my experience. I think I might get up to .8 with my biggest plants during flower. Whatever 700 ppm is, is the highest I ever really go. I think that coverts to somewhere between .6-.9 ec but I don't remember the conversion off the top of my head.

I totally get why someone would run soil, especially living soil. I think the goal is to use the least amount of work/materials/nutrients to grow the biggest/best/most potent nugs we can. At least for me in my grows that's how I look at it. Taste definitely is different in hydro than soil. I usually notice a clearer taste in hydro, not better but the soil definitely adds a little something to the flavor of your buds. I like earthy strains in hydro, but find them overpowering dirt taste in soil. So it can go either way as to which my preference is.

That being said, soils grows don't touch the growth rate on my hydro/aero setups. That's one place soil/hard media grows just cannot touch. Roots growing in only air or air and water just grow at an exponentially faster rate I would bet due to the lack of resistance on root growth.

Cup_Competition 047.jpg Cup Update Time:

Midget-Zilla is going great. I lost my 1st leaf today and the other lowest one of the pair is right behind it. I am feeding at 600 PPM and it seems to be tolerating it. I'm including a little Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom and 1 Tsp of Cal-Mag per gallon. She gets watered every morning and night and on the weekends, I will water at noon time (If I don't forget). I installed my 1st mini split today and never got around to watering until just before lights out. She was some thirsty!!

There are some real monsters left in the competition. Good luck to all remaining and I am still learning and hope to finish.

Here are the pics:

Hi all, weekly update for Day 46. Still going, not doing bad, buds are building on her, unlike the skinny-ass tall pheno on the left with 5 buds on it - lol A little frost showing up. Still have that 2 oz. cup going, could get 2 hits off it if I can keep it green ;)

Update 6 day 44 from sprouting

Shes still growing. Ive fed her a few teas but still yellowing up. Think gonna have up the feedings to possibly heavy. Lost few lower leaves, don't think shes happy being very root bound. Other than that still doing good.
Lookin good but can you please attach your pics like a regular cup contestant?
I think it's gonna cost you votes in the end too being so hard to recap your photo's ;-)
