The 15' VB That Won't

Once the plant next to it finishes I'm gonna try to get a cover made for her. Just once I'd like to get this strain to finish. Rain coming tonight and tommorow, but weather looking good after that. Time will tell.

For shits and giggles, the rest of the yard. Also, one close up of the VB...you be the judge on finishing time.

Is that an avocado I see in the first shot? If so, don't they have much the same requirements as Mary, as far as not liking freezing temps, etcetera? To my eye it looks like the VB hasn't even really begun flowering. Finish maybe by the end of the year? Just a guess. You need those Christmas lights.

(Hey, you know, if you put enough on there they might generate enough warmth to spur her along, just a thought.)

Kumquat.

Good eye! My guess is New Years at the earliest.

And so with that one girl you've got yourself year-round growing/flowering. In the northern hemisphere. Weirder things! No wonder that thing's a TREE.

The VB was started from seed on March 20. Put in the dirt on April 20. I thought for sure it would have been a little earlier, but that goes to show you that no matter how long you give them, it ain't done til the genetics of the particular strain says so.

I'm gonna try to finish her. There is a possibility with a lot of work and time it could be done. Just ends up being genetics that aren't suited for this longitude. Possible to X her and amybe get a climatized strain, but in my mind you'd be losing the real genetics, or at the least, pissing in the gene pool:sad:

Good Christ, germinated in MARCH??? If that were my whole grow I would be SO f'ing frustrated at this point.

And I'd suggest tenting it, but that looked like an 8' ladder up next to her, there. Still.. something like a gigantic cold frame might spur her along. Or.. maybe not.

Wow.

Yep, March! That's why I only choose 1 keeper a year and see if it can be done. Just think, if you had a climate this strain would finish in, you'd still be trimming when the next batch germinated:wall:

15 foot and still stretching is the problem. The 'tent' will have to be at least 20' high to accomadate her. Making one that would hold up to wind and rain is another issue. One year I had one go 18 foot and never finish.

You have got to be kidding me. Our REDWOOD hasn't even hit 15' and it's been in ground for two years!

Was the 18'-er the same strain, by any chance? Maybe just build a fort in 'em, eh?

Yea, same strain. Never have gotten one to finish. I started this one on bloom nutes same time as the others in hopes it would induce flowering. Even went as far to hit it 4 times with Supernatural Bud Blaster 1-52-31 which it says can be used to induce flowering. No such luck.

You think this is bad...wish I had some pics of my indoor attempt with the strain:lol:

C'mon now, we know LEDS have time and time again been proven almost useless. j\k ;-)
Seriously though,
BLT, that plant is gigantic, please please please try to keep her alive and see her through to fruition. Build a green house, 20 feet high if you need to, buy some outdoor hid lights and blast the crap out of her. it would hurt me too much to know that something this huge and beautiful is gonna die without serving its purpose.

But he said that he's tried growing this strain indoors and it didn't finish.

I thought Christmas lights were tiny incandescents, aren't they?

I'm gonna try and let her finish. I will come up with some sort of cover. As for light, she doesn't need light. There will be plenty of sunshine, at least as much as she'll need, to finish. My concern is the weather. Rain and high humidity. Cold may be a factor in a couple of months, but a heater should help that. I don't know, never tried to grow outdoors in the winter.

Seamaiden,
It wasn't that it didn't finish, the fact was it outgrew the ceiling height. I would have needed vertical lighting to go with the overhead as well. It took over the room to the point I had to chop her to save the other projects.

Xmas lights were just a figure of speach. I would be cool though to have a 'living Xmas tree' and harvest after New Years:bigjoint:

If you really want to get it to finish, clone and flower indoors at 2 feet. You will have a manageable height by the time it is done

Yea, that would work, except I'm a seed guy. Been down the clone road.

Just saying, if you would actually like to see how some buds come out, looks like that would be your only way.
Didn't mean any disrespect here. My thoughts are the true capabilities of the genetics will show from seed to finish. Once you find a good starting point (genetics) you can go from there. Many a time I could have Xed male to others. I have tried the finished product years ago. Not a high for everyone. Just once I'd like to see 1 finish outdoors. This may be the year with some effort put into it.
