....snip..... People always complain about what they have, but forget what it was like before. The grass is always greener I guess. Before dispensaries buying bud was a matter of accepting what ever a dealer handed you at what ever price the dealer decided to charge. ...snip......
OH yes Dan I remember those days! I tried marijuana in the 1970s. It was $10.00 for an OZ (what a bargain eh?). [SARCASM] With that ounce you got all the stems, seeds, dirt, rodent feces, mold, paraquat and who knows what else for free! [/SARCASM] If you were found with ANY amount of marijuana you went directly to jail, you did not pass go and you did not collect $200.00. You could also go to jail for the mere possession of drug paraphernalia.

Typically you had only 1 or possibly 2 'connections' and connections were NOT easy to make because the penalties were so damn harsh. Complain to your 'connection' and you were suddenly relieved of the burden of buying their stuff LOL.

Today is a veritable paradise but it could be improved. It can always be improved. But it was a certain amount of fun to be smoking along and hit a seed LOL OK maybe not LOL

Typically you had only 1 or possibly 2 'connections' and connections were NOT easy to make as at this time because there were reasons for serious paranoia the penalities were so damn harsh. Complain to your 'connection' and you were suddenly relieved of the burden of buying their stuff LOL.

Today is a veritable paradise but it could be improved. It can always be improved.
And when your connect went dry or was unreachable, you had to scrape your pipe and smoke the resin. Yuck! Dispensaries don't go dry.

People always glorify "the good old days", but if you really way out the pros and cons, what we have now is a significant improvement in every way.

Yes it always amazes me how people long for the 'good ole days' they never experienced. Dan remember the exploding seeds? It was actually fairly easy to give mj up it was such a risk. That's one reason why I have such respect for the growers that survived through that until today.

mr kone.remember now that each club your a member of can grow at least say 6 plants for YOU and mom and pop dont grow shit for YOU....what im trying to say
Don't really get this... If the club "can" grow for you, why can't mom and pops? They should be taking a copy of your card just like any other club! Just because it is mom and pops doesn't mean it's not a business!
the key word there is "can"! How many clubs do you think are actually growing all of their own stuff? or for that matter grow for even half the people that come in? Just because they MAY have the option to grow a couple more plants for you doesn't mean they are! lets use 1Love in sacramento as an example, Do you really think they are growing for even 1/5 of the people that come through there? NO WAY IN HELL! So why should they keep giving people free stuff when they are buying it? It is far more likely that the club is NOT using your card, and even if they are big deal they have a thousand others they could use! Everyone and their mother has a card, just because you join a club doesn't mean they are using your card, they are just making sure they are selling to a patient!

I'm definitely from the post-seed era. The only bud I've ever seen with seeds is cartel brick weed.

Also worth mentioning.... You can walk into a dispensary and buy a clone for $8-15 bucks which is capable of producing ounces or even pounds of bud.

When I first started growing people were super stoked on finding bagseed or getting a few seeds from your friends. I couldn't just say "hhmmmmm, do I want to grow platinum OG or super silver haze this time". Nope, your next grow was whatever bagseed you could get your hands on. We've come a long way.

OH YES in so many ways! The marijuana today is consistent and potent enough to actually serve as medicine. When I first saw the 'new' marijuana it was almost unrecognizable from what I knew as mj. Oh and it just cracks me up that people consider bag appeal an important issue LOL. The ability to focus on the more peripheral issues is part of what says how far we have come and how safe it is in comparison to how it was.

WOW! I'm only reading one half of this conversation. If someone doesn't bother to TRY and punctuate, I won't even TRY and read their post.

Dan's point regarding "the good ol days" is well taken. The good ol days (1990-2000ish ?) were one hell of alot better for growers than smokers. Between 1994 and 1997 I grew Northern Lights #5 outdoors. I sold this WHOLESALE for $4,000/lb! I promise you every bit of that sold for AT LEAST $60/ eighth...$70 in some circles. As a grower and a captitolist I would prefer to go back in time. But to assume that time was anything but fucked on the consumer is ignorant.

One of the main problems with our little industry moving forward is the mass of conflicting opinions. I no longer feel the need to see everyone united as one voice that will speak for the weed growing/using community as a whole. My new goal is just to gather up a group of growers that think kind of like I do about this thing. While it would be nice to say "everyone's welcome", that's counterproductive. That much should be obvious with a read through RIU. I would like to see a group of like minded growers get together and brainstorm ideas for the future of this thing. The folks I would like to talk with:

1. Make their living growing weed.
2. Will continue to make their living growing weed regardless of the legal climate.
3. Want a voice in the forming of any new laws or regulations that affect weed growers.
4. Are willing to listen to other ideas and would be willing to make some changes in their opoeration to better the group as a whole, and the future of weed growers.
5. Want to keep weed growing profitable for small scale grow operations.
6. Will use their collective influence to help shape the future for the industry.

Thaere's probably a bunch more, but I would rather write more with the input of other "members". I'll work out a vehicle by which we can start this discussion. We really need to start pulling in the same direction. Of course, this is impossible when none of us know what direction that is. We're so busy trying to guess the future, we ignore the simple fact that together we can shape that future.

Yes, I'm an ex-convict and even a prick at times. But, I do have enough brain power to recognise sarcasm. You missed the entire point. If you knew anything about me you'd know that my Collective donates free of charge unlimitted meds to any terminal, cancer, or AIDS patient that cannot afford to pay for their own. The monthly dollar value of those donations currently exceeds $1,000 per month. That's an extra grand I could have in my pocket every month. What have you done lately?

BTW, I was busted by the DEA for growing over 100 plants and recieved the 5 year mandatory minimum sentence in federal prison...of which I served 85% of. I am not ashamed of this, and neither is my wonderful and supportive mother.
how could you have only serve 85% of a madatory min of 5 yrs... I thought there is no good time or time off for good behavior in the Fed pen when talking about mandatory min sentencing

just ask elite of elite genetics :)

Mandatory Minimum Sentence
When someone is convicted of an offense punishable by a mandatory minimum sentence, the judge must sentence the defendant to the mandatory minimum sentence or to a higher sentence.

The judge has no power to sentence the defendant to less time than the mandatory minimum.

A prisoner serving an MMS for a federal offense and for most state offenses will not be eligible for parole. Even peaceful marijuana smokers sentenced to "life MMS" must serve a life sentence with no chance of parole.
