Take two - Second Grow

This is going is going to be my first journal. Although, it is our (my fiance and I) second grow. The first time we grew, we just kinda set them (there were 2) outside on our porch, watered them, and let nature take its course until they got to the point where our neighbors might be able to identify what kinda plants they were. We had a light system, but we were letting a friend borrow it at the time, so we made a deal with him that he could continue to use it if he took care of our babies for us. He did a good job, but we had neglected moving them in to bigger pots and ended up with 2 big buds on a stem basically. We really weren't disappointed at all because we didn't really try a whole lot and we got the seeds from bud we had bought before. Also we decided in the beginning that we would be happy if we got anything off the plants. We think one was a skunk and the other was a sweet leaf, but weren't completely sure.

Anyway, we started off this time deciding to try to grow 3 plants. I used the paper towel method, forgot about them for a few days, and then checked back on them to see that 2 had roots ready to be put in the soil. Then my fiance planted those 2 in some pots and we put them under a fluorescent light about 2-3 inches from the top of the soil. Within the first 24 hours the plants were showing through the soil.

We kinda took notes for the first couple of days and then we got really busy and we kind of stopped up until today. My fiance thought we should name the plants, so we named them Marley and Jayda. (both girl names, as we hope that they are girlys) So heres what we had from before:

11-8-08-(Day 1[from planting])- watered each plant at approx 7:15am and watered again at approx 5:30pm. Both plants are breaking through the soil.

11-9-08-(Day 2)- Both plants are above soil about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch. Watered both in the early morning. In Afternoon, sprayed with water and talked to them for a little bit (I felt really stupid, but I heard that it helps because of the carbon dioxide and I needed to vent a bit, so if it didn't do anything for the plants, at least I felt better) In Evening, the shells had fallen off top of plants an starter leaves are fully exposed :). I watered them a bit more.

11-10-08-(Day 3)- Decided to move the plants a bit closer to the light, because we decided they looked like they were stretching a bit and we didn't want the stems to get weak. Watered w/ spray bottle in the AM. Watered soil in late afternoon. Jayda is about 1 and 3/4 inches-2 inches tall and Marley is about 1 and 1/4 to 1 and 1/2 inches tall.

11-11-08 (Day 4)- Watered in the AM. Seems leaves have grown a bit since its closer to the light. Looking at the leaves you can definitely tell that the plants are different strains.

Then we stopped writing down notes :( But so far not a whole lot is going on anyway. They are still babies, so right now all we are doing is making sure temp stays right, keeping them under light, and watering them.

I did notice though that the first set of leaves have grown pretty freaking big in comparison to how much they have grow in height. Our other plants grew taller before the leaves got so big, but then again we kinda effed those girls up, so I am not sure if we are doing something wrong this time or if its normal. As of right now they are on their second node, those leaves are still pretty small. (It is day 10)

I don't have the camera that we took our pictures on handy. I should be able to get a hold of it in a few hours and then I will label them by day and post it up for everyone to see.

I appologize on how long this first post is. They should be way smaller in the future. I just had to kinda catch up on everything thats happened so far. I would be pleased to get comments from people as well as suggestions. :peace:

welcome to both of you. you should find lots of useful info on this site.

the only tip i can give at this point is to be careful not to overwater your plants. watering every day with a little water is ok for the first week or so, but you'll want to switch to a thorough watering every couple of days. that helps the roots to develop by growing to find the remaining water in the pot. to accomplish this, water the plants enough for some water to flow out of the bottom. then wait a couple of days until the soil is dry down an inch or two. then repeat.

Thanks for the welcome and the tip. I think we were doing okay with the watering. They only got like a shot glass full each at each watering. (it never got to the point where the water came out the hole in the bottom of the pot) Actually, one day I forgot to water them and one got all sad and droopy. It did perk back up though like in two days. We actually very carefully re-potted them last night, and the roots had grown pretty well throughout the soil :). I do appreciate the tips though.

I decided to go to a friends house last night to smoke :weed:instead of posting the pictures and then stupidly didn't put the pictures on the computer. So I hopefully, (if I don't get distracted tonight) they will be up later. Thanks again.
