t8 light grow set up?

hey everyone ive been smoking for about 9 years now and decided to grow for my own personal use and i was thinking about using a 4ftx4ftx6.5ft grow tent with 6 32 watt 6500k t8 bulbs for veg and using 3000k for flowering was just wondering what everyone thinks and will it be a good set up

Ppl will tell u to upgrade ur lights to HPS or MH. Don't let that sway your decision. I've seen beautiful buds grown with t5's. T8's aren't quite as good but still...for your own personal stash it's more than adequate.

Agreed.
My veg tent runs on three of those T8 shop light fixtures. Six four foot bulbs total.
I added an extra ballast to each two bulb fixture.
It overdrives the bulbs and increases the lumens.
There are several videos on you-tube.
It costs around $10.00 per shop-light fixture and $10.00 for the ballast. (or just rip the one out of another $10.00 fixture)
I have been running these in my veg tent for over two years now.
It shortens the life of the bulbs, so I switch them every six months, but who cares when the t8 bulbs are only $3.00 apiece.
I have some pics in my journals of these lights.

thanks for the input guys im gonna go to home depot and check the price of the t5 light fixtures if they cost to much more than the t8 ill just stick with the t8

Wow Home Depot sells grow tents. Who knew. I bought a t8 shop light that held 4x4' bulbs. I found it didn't work well at all. I had better brighter light from cfl. I also felt like the fixture ran hot. Not hid hot but more than what I expected. I ended up rigging a couple bathroom light fixtures that held 3 cfl so I had 6 x23 watt cfl and worked better. T5 def brighter and upgrade over t8.

Veg with T5's and flower under HPS is optimal. While Rockmtnman seems to have T8's dialed in I have 2 two-bulbs hanging in the corners of my flower room (vertically) and I have branches almost touch it and they still bend towards the HPS and away from the T8's. They just don't have the light penetration of HID's.

There are several lighting options that are better than t8s, but since you asked about those, that's what I shared.
Your plants will always reach for the brightest light, so if you have a mix of different lights they will usually lean that direction.

I would never flower with them, but they veg fine for me.
I keep them around six inches from the plants.
What led me to this, was years ago back in the 80's, we used regular T12s an vegged our plants that way.
(there was a time before the internet, grow shops and unlimited access to equipment)
My friend was a lineman for Ma Bell (the phone co.) and used to get us street lights for flowering. (HID gymnasium lights work great too)
In current times, it boils down to what you want to spend. (options abound)

In my 50+ years on this planet, I have seen weed grown in some crazy ways.
Before all these grow shops, internet and unlimited products, weed was easier to grow.
You never found yourself second guessing your methods, or wondering if you need that new super food or liquid magic.
Didn't have PH testers, meters and crap.
We grew based on botany and got what we needed at our local nursery.

Yes T5s are better, but I and 1000s of others managed without them before they were ever invented.
Plus I run separate rooms for veg and flower. I run a perpetual and keep a rotation of plants going in 12/12 every couple weeks.
I'm in less of a hurry to veg, since it's just a timing thing for me. I don't need my vegging plants to "hurry up".
So to answer your original question...yes, you can veg just fine with those, just depends what your time limitations and needs are.

I didn't mean to step on your toes Rocky, but not everyone (including me apparently) can get the T8's wired as you have.

You're right....to OP asked about T8's and I feel for the extra $ T5's are much better. If someone's on a budget, check Craigslist as there's always a good deal there if you keep your eyes open.

The separate rooms is great advice. I'd go crazy if I had to wait every 4 months to start a new crop.

thanks for the information everyone i went and got a 4x4x6.5 grow tent and got 2 4 bulb t5 fictures so have 8 lights in total each bulb is 54 watt.... will post pics of set up when i can
