I veg with a T5 because it hella cheaper on your electric bill using it 18/6 for 7-8 week veg times..One downside is you get major stretch when you hit it with a 1000W HPS

Here's my weekly update, guys. I wanna address kev's question about pros and cons of t5 lighting in veg. The pros that I see are; The lamps and ballast run substantially cooler than HID, the multi-lamp nature of most t5 hoods means that we can provide a wider spectrum than HID lighting, you can hang your hood about 50% closer to the canopy than HID lights. The only con I can find right now is that T5 lamps lack infrared whereas HID bulbs produce an over abundance in IR. I think infrared spectrum is what causes plants to stretch tall. I get loads of new vegatative growth; however, I lack the stretching that most HID heads see and mistake for their plants 'growing tall". This is only my opinion and I'm pretty noob at all this all I got are my own thoughts on the matter 8-)

I too veg with t5. Like beaver, it's cheaper and also runs a lot cooler. Also, fluorescents last a long time. I don't have t change the bulbs as often like I am doing with the hps.

That's good to know, Beav. Essentially for the price of one good hortilux bulb you can buy about 8 of those aquarium bulbs. that plus how long fluorescents last; that's some serious savings!

Very nice update ! Seems a little dry maybe ? Lights come on & droop ? Or do you water at lights on ? 2 months & foot & a half tall ? Im newer than a fresh turd on & about to get ebb/gro off the ground. I try to learn something from everyones postings.

I am really starting to think that it was the fact that I used salt softened tap water. I did a PH test on my medium and it was around 5.5-6.0; that is a little to acidic for the plants liking. What tastes good is not good for plants, right? So, I went to the local water shop after I went to the hydro store and I re-upped my water supply. I did a flush with R/O and salt leaching solution yesterday. Today, I checked on the PH and it was back within spec. 6.5-7.0. They still look horrible... but they are noticeably improving. The one that is the worst off is Blue Hash. That girl is looking rather homely.

Wish I had a clue, bud. It may very well be tied to your hempy buckets/water source & causing havoc on the nutes ability to be taken in. If you have a good basic nute program you shouldn't need to add anything except possibly cal/mag if none in your water. Of course I know little & guess a lot (LOL) , meaning don't take my post as knolwedge !

My thought on your grow...

Why buy the most expensive Nutes and short out on the light system... I would have went with cheap nutes and focused on getting a HPS light system... Alot of folks do not realize the fluffy ass buds grow from CFLs and the Top Shev=lve buds grow under HPS... HPS lights are as close as you will get to the suns spectrum... Once again the nutes are great but you could have gone a little cheap on the nutes and went all out on the light system...
You did the complete opposite..
Most expensive nutes with the cheapest lights...

When I was growing in the closet I used CFLs but found if you can put the plants outside in the direct sun a few hours out of the day you will see a big differance... CFLs get the job done and that is about it...

I went with t5s because I am trying out cheaper lighting setups. I bet I get a better spectrum with my t5s and the lumens output is comparable to a 400 watt HPS. I am trying out some specialty bulbs that I have seen remarkable results with. I know that HIDs work I am just trying to figure out why and how. I think most of it has to do with the abundance of IR energy (sun emits plenty and so do HPS). When I finally get around to buying HID lighting I will spring for one of those

900w Sun Spinners. or a good solar genesis
