Green Crack (Day 63)

I'm seeing more amber trichomes, but not really sure if I'm getting the cloudy tradeoff..
If they're not done yet, which I suspect is the case.. because I want them done NOW, thats why.. :wink:don't

I'm hoping after drying I'll have at least enough to fill a 1 qt mason jar.. but thats a few weeks from now..

Took a sample off one of the plants.. 4.2 gram (obviously wet) Trimmed it up a bit and strung it up in the closet. I'll give it a few days to dry while I wait for the rest to wrap up. I don't see too many clear trichomes left.. most of 'em are midway between clear and cloudy, with a few amber mixed in.. so they're real close. Thoughts?

Green Crack: Day 65

I'm seeing more cloudy than clear or amber... though I'm still seeing more clear than amber, so I'm going to give 'em another couple days to cloud over.. just trying to really dial them in, but I don't see them taking too much longer..

ordered a decently rated hygrometer on Amazon (Caliber III Digital Hygrometer & Thermometer) to help w/ the cure in wide mouth mason jars I've got around here for Apple Pie.. mmm.. Christmas is gonna kick ass! Apple Pie Moonshine and Green Crack!

For a free seed, she's certainly outperforming the Green Crack two weeks ago.. I couldn't find much on this strain when I got them, but ran 'em anyway. First grow with free clones and free seeds? Perfect!
This one is the first strain grown from seed, and the original sprout (I took cuttings before flowering)

Didn't check the girls today.. out of town until well after lights out. Looking at the trichome pics from the other day, I'm thinking harvest day is tomorrow.. I'll verify before I chop, but I think they're nearly at the tipping point between max clouded / turning amber..

Day 70 Green Crack :leaf:

Harvest Day! Took these pics just before I chopped.. I hope I didn't mess this up,.. I've gotten it right so far and I'm just hoping my luck holds out through the cure.. everything from this point on is all new, after all. Waited till there were more cloudy trichomes than anything.. :bigjoint: as few clear and amber as possible. from all the pics I took, it looks that way.

I didn't trim up any of the sugar leaves.. The small sample I took a week or so back dried in the closet after a thorough trim in 2-1/2 to 3 days.. definitely not as long as (i think) it should take.. I figure I'll keep a close watch on them for the first day or two.. some of them are big, and I'm worried about mold, but there's good ventilation from a nearby ceiling fan and the door is always cracked open.. also, I keep as much light out as possible. Low 70's F w/ 50ish% rh. Hung everything in my closet from binder clips and modified wire coat hangars. I also put two hygrometers at different heights to monitor temp / rh. :weed:

Kinda wished I had weighed the harvest from each plant respectively, just to know what worked best, but in the end, its all the same I guess. As always, I welcome questions, comments and helpful tips!

I'm already planning on buying more binder clips.. 2 boxes I bought isn't enough (I think)

I want more space between the buds to avoid any moisture issues (although @ 70 degrees F 48% RH seems good, no?) and there's a few buds sharing a branch (more than once) just a bit too close to each other for my comfort level.. what's another $0.88 @Wal-Mart?

Hangin' 'em all in the closet gives me a better idea of the harvest weight.. the biggest of which is going to be at least 1/4 by itself.. (only weighed the biggest one.. 1.4 oz wet w/ sugar leaf) Biggest bud I've ever owned, and I grew it! Sweet! :-P I've been sayin' it right along.. I'm hoping to fill a wide mouth 1 qt mason jar. Anything more is just gravy! ......or oil .......or butter .........or hash!

ahem.. excuse me, and my "ahead of myself" rant....:bigjoint:

I'm driving myself crazy worrying about mold issues.. there's no fan leaves, and I've tried to give them some room to breathe between them, but I'm worried the sugar leaf may give a space (between it and the bud) for mold to develop.. am I wrong? i hope so.. 70 degrees F / 50% RH with airflow in darkness

As always, any suggestions are welcome!

Afghani Regular Day 58ish...

glad now that I started this one when I did.. roughly 2 weeks after the green crack was started..
I have no room left in the closet to dry. I'm starting to wonder if I can get away with hanging it from the ceiling in the living room tented w/ blackout shades..
just when you think you're out of room, you find a bit more space!:weed:

Trimmed and jarred the green crack buds today.. the dry was ended prematurely due to changing conditions that I can't control at this point.. RH in the closet plummeted, but the outside of the buds were dry.Had them in jars for a day, but they were sticking to each other and the jar, so I changed it up. Put them into brown paper bags, single layer at the bottom of the bag w/ top folded over. I'll check them tomorrow 8 - 12 hours from now.. hopefully they're ready for the jars. When they are, I've got Caliber III hygrometers and Boveda 62 packs for a good chance at a decent finish.
total harvest weight after dry and trim: 3.57 oz.. damn close to a nice round 100 grams. :weed:
I'm still sailing in uncharted waters as far as experience goes, so I'm hoping I make it the whole way through with some respectable bud at the end of all this..

Damn, 100 grams! I'm hoping for 30 from my first plant, though not transplanting it from a 1.5 gallon pot hurt me in this regard, but congrats!!

Only 1 Boveda 62 pack is visible, but each jar has one..
Took everything out of the paper bags (which also had a Boveda 62 pack overnight) and the excess moisture issue seems to be handled.. really worried about mold, but they're doing great!
Need to work on my trimming skills though.. :wall:

I was happy to get anything at all.. this was my first grow, after all! Did as much reading and research as possible before I started.. plus I've still got the Afghani Regular from Herbies goin' in the next room which wont be done for a couple of weeks. She should give me at least another oz.. :bigjoint:

Herbies Afghani Regular: Day? Your guess is as good as mine..

The colas are beginning to swell again.. though I'm detecting some "purpling" of a few of the leaves, and a distinct clawing of the leaf blade tips.. not sure if these are symptoms of a deficiency, or just signs the plant is wrapping up the show.. though it certainly looks a little early for that.

Afghani Regular: damn near harvest!

Here's some trichome pics,..

not posted on a Wednesday but I checked on her today and she was tipped all the way over under her own weight.. strapped her back up w/ lockwire and took these pics after watering. They look like they're damn near ready to go, except I've got plenty of white hairs left up top..

thoughts?

Took quite a few pictures this afternoon.. these are the best of the bunch w/ a 30x magnification scope and a 12 mp camera.

She's taking FOREVER to finish!!!

I'm not in any particular rush, or running short on patience, BUT DAMN! I'm not 100% sure when I started her, but it's been nearly 90 days in flower.. for an indica, this sounds way too long.. but the trichomes run the show, and they aren't quite there yet. Could this be due to some deficiency? or perhaps some slow maturation due to flowering under T5s? The Green Crack took much longer than I anticipated, but came out great!

CHOPPED!

Hang dry for a few days, then into unbleached brown paper bags w/ unbleached cardboard for a good thorough dry and finally into glass jars to finish...

...and now we wait

After a good week of drying I've put the harvested bud straight into a 1 qt wide mouth mason jar w/ Boveda 62 Humidipack and a hygrometer to keep an eye on everything. I didn't end up tossing them into brown paper bags like I did with the Green Crack, but that's due to the Afghani being significantly more dry at this point than the Green Crack was.. (Green Crack was much more dense)

Total dry harvest weight: 21 grams

Not bad for one plant.. especially from free seed. Hopefully she's as good a smoke as she smells! This brings the total harvest weight for my first run strains to 121g of fresh homegrown. Now I've got 4 mason jars to get me through the winter.. :bigjoint:
