[T5/Coco/Seedlingz!] First Grow - [OG Diesel x Durple] (Durban Poison x Mendo Purps)

Was without internet for about a week, sorry for the lack of updates! I'll treat it as if it never happened

Day 33 - Nute Lock-out!
4/14/12

So, I realized today that I had completely left flushing my ladies' coco out of the equation thus far. Seeing as how I didn't pre-rinse the stuff, I'm betting that the salt-buildup inside these smart pots is prettttttty high. As you can see the plants seem to be cannibalizing themselves starting from the stem upwards. The growth seems to have stopped and I'm not seeing new roots in the smart pots, so it looks like I've gotta take some action.

POST-FLUSH:

Axilla just looks sad compared to the other two, and especially Funky Bitch. I know it has something to do with it being considerably more of a sativa pheno than the others, but I also suspect my shitty transplant and lack of decent root system is the major player in how its grown to this sad state. Note the yellowing bottom leaves.

Funky Bitch is pro as ever. Nothing really to report, except that it has the same yellowing base-leaves as Axilla and SG, ya just can't see em



All three + the two Purple Island / OGD seeds that sprouted about a week ago.



I don't expect to really see any changes for the next week until they dry out and I feed again, but let's see!

Day 34: Clean n' Happy bushes!
4/15/12

Welp, the girls are perky and happy after the flush! I also raised my T5 a few inches as I WANT the plants to stretch a bit, and they definitely responded! Check it out, Funky Bitch is happppppy (on the right)!



It's a sunny day, so here's a pic of FunkyB in the direct sunlight through the skylight she's definitely taller.




And, check out the new branches coming from the bottom nodes! I trained them above the middle fan-leaves to redirect some of the hormones, let's see how they look tomorrow!



Not much else to say about the others. I'm going to keep raising the light and see how much stretch I can get before I feed these again

Day 37: Smooth Sailing (5 weeks 2 days of Veg)

It seems like the flush was super beneficial because in the past several days the cannibalization has very much slowed on all the plants, they've grown a few inches and a few new sets of leaves. The new tops seem to be growing on all the plants, but about 1/3 as vigorously as the ones on Funky Bitch.

I had germ'd a Purple Island / OGD and two OGDurple seeds a few days ago, and they look like they're ready to be put in some party cups. That'll be tomorrow with the girls' first feeding in TWO WEEKS!

Day 38 - It's Feeeeeeding time!!! (5 weeks, 3 days)

That's what we always say whenever we feed the snake that we've got downstairs. Her name is Carini and she tosses back mice like it's nobody's business- I'll have to supply a pic of her eating one next time we feed her

Well, here's a proper shot of what I've been usin' lately. I got the superthrive last week and added it to the pH'd flush-water which I forgot to mention.



Tomorrow's 4/20 and I'm feelin' a little lazy with my update, but I'll show ya a pic of the line-up now that I've put in a good amount of work already getting the two OGDurple seeds and 1 OGD/PI seed in coco cups, nutes mixed/plants fed, and AXILLA PRUNED AND LST'D.

Yep. I pruned and LST'd Axilla! Once my favorite plant and front-runner, Axilla has been showin' up pretty poorly as of late. Whether it has to do with its sativa pheno or what, it just isn't nearly on the same plane as SuzyG and FunkB. I decided to do some experimentation on it (as I was itching to do with one of the three at this point anyways), so it alllllllll worked out. You'll see Axilla on the left, I pruned off the first 6 leaves starting at the base, all were white/yellow from the lockout before, so no big loss. I then trained Axilla to the side so I can allow the new tops at the base to grow upwards and catch some light. I almost want this one to die so I can have room for the two Purple Island /OGD's in the party cups. They just turned 2 weeks old!




Aaaaand here's the whole lineup as of late. The empty blue cups are filled with water for humidity.

Day 39 - Thy Holy High Holiday - (5 weeks, 4 days)

Well, it feels like any other day here in Boulder, CO. ESPECIALLY now that they've banned the smoke-out celebration that happens every year on campus, it's not overrun with scumbags from Denver lookin' to scream WOOOOOOO while smoking a huge schwag blunt. Just another sunny spring day

BUT, in honor of the day, I'll be smoking a choice nug of Durple from the last harvest. This is from the momma that produced the seeds that I am growing before your very eyes. I'm hoping that SuzyGreenberg produces buds very similar to this, as FunkyB's seem to be more OG-leaning.

The smell is so distinct and fresh, I love it!

Okay, now it's time to check on the LST'd and Pruned AXILLA.



Not bad! Taking nicely to its abuse, I see. The fact it's not dead is all I can ask for. I'll be monitoring the new growth closely.

Suzy G is lookin' healthy, it's like a two-thirds power Funky Bitch, but I hope that's just the sativa-ness slowin' it down. That or I hope it's because this is a true female and FunkyB is gonna have bawls AND chick-parts.



FunkyB is a good 5" tall at this point, having grown 2" in just 2-3 days. Looks like all three are taking off for their second half of veg!!

Day 40 - Smooth Sailin' Once Again (5 weeks, 5 days)
4/21/12

Ah, 4/20 is over and we can all go back to feeling normal about weed again. Rejoice!

The plants are definitely taking off. I won't be purchasing a 600w HPS / grow tent probably until mid-may, so I'm gonna be veggin' all these for a few more weeks. Which is fine! I'm in no rush. It's exciting to see what happens under these pitiful T5 bulbs.

I've named the two Purple Island / OGD babies.

Peggy-O here is a real mutant. I'm not quite sure what's goin on with these leaves, but it'll be interesting to watch.



Althea seems to be uniform and healthy.



They've been in party cups for over 2 weeks at this point, and I plan to keep em in til they start dryin' out every day. I'll have to take a picture of their roots as they really tell the story about what's goin on. I can see why newbs including myself get worried about this stage of a seedling. No new growth in 10 days, but the roots are absolutely rockin' underneath!

Well, on to the main-ladies. Let's check on Axilla!



Definitely responding well to its abuse, but that was still only a few days ago and could be recovering at the moment. The new growth grew almost an inch in a day!

SuzyG is lookin' quite decent, growin' steadily. I wish it would explode like FunkyB, but every outcome is new data I suppose.



aaaand the main bitch, Funky Bitch. 6" tall now, and I'm sure it'd get bigger if I didn't stop it.



I relocated FunkyB to the center so I could let the Axilla and SuzyG catch up to its height. Feelin' pretty good about the current state of things in Veg

Oh and, I know that looks like PM on Axilla, but its just white spots in the structure of the leaf. All three ladies seem to have the spots on a few leaves each. I attribute it to the nute lockout from a few weeks ago and just hope it doesn't appear on the new growth

Day 42 - I've got my work cut out for me now! (5 weeks, 7 days of veg)

I'm happy to report that Axilla is enjoying her LST, and is showing a bunch of new growth down at her base where I trimmed the sad fan leaves away. Funky B is gettin' huge at 6+" tall, and SuzyG is smoothly growing at a 2/3 Funky Bitch pace.

It was also a super sunny day, so each picture of each plant will have a T5 pic paired with a direct sunlight pic. I love the skylight!

ALSO, I will be posting the root growth from my two Purple Island / OGD babies that have been vegging under the T5s for about 17 days now. I think a transplant into 1-gallons is due tomorrow or the next day. I'm seein' how different growth is between the 1-gallon and 3-gallons this time, and will plant my three sprouting seedlings accordingly. I'll show ya pics of those too at the bottom!

Day 45 - I've really got the hang of this seedling thing, i THINK (6 weeks, 2 days of veg)

Hey hey! So in my last post I mentioned that I wanted to try and determine the sex of all the plants.

In this post I'll be-

-showin' you SuzyG's ladyparts
-showin' you Axilla's latest tie-down
-showin' you the two Purple Island / OGDiesels that I transplanted from party cups into 1-gallon smart pots
-showin' you the two baby OGDurple/PI-OGD seedlings that I popped a week ago, which are taking off better than any of my previous ones- which is why I feel like I've got this down nowww

As I mentioned in the OP, an OGDiesel grew dicks and banged the Durple below it- the Durple is what produced the seeds, yet never showed signs of herming itself. I would hope to think that most of these would come out ladies WITHOUT balls, and it seems like I'm right so far! Here's SuzyG with some definitely chick parts.



Well, Axilla is pretty happy so I strapped her down for a 3rd time. I'm really diggin' the LST, and I can't wait to try it on a way more vigorous plant next time! I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be able to take a few good clones off of Funky Bitch. FunkyB is 8" today, and I can't seem to give it the room it needs while still properly taking care of the others. I can't wait to buy the 600w HPS!

Lookin' real good! I also pruned off 3 more of the base fan leaves. I am going to keep the outside ones that are on the opposite side of all the lower, new growth so they can eat up light without taking it from any of the nearby plants.

I had two really successful transplants for the two Purple Island / OGDiesel plants yesterday. Nothing feels better than good transplants

Peggy-O, the mutant, is still growing oddly. I figure why not keep it goin'? Purple Island is hands down my favorite strain in forever, I want to see if I can grow somethin' close to it from at least ONE of these babies.



Althea here is growing very uniformly and steadily. I am a big fan of her already, but I'm thinking that the newest seedling that I planted of this variety will be the best of all of them.

Day 59 - It's all goooooooood
(8 weeks, 3 days of veg)

Well, I should be getting a light soon to flower these ladies. And they ARE ladies, all three are showing long pistils comin' out of the preflowers on half of the nodes on each respective plant.

I also trashed my two Purple Island / OGDiesel seedlings because they were pretty mutant, and decided to grow the two babies I had in solo cups (one OGDurple, one PurpleIsland/OGD), and take 6 clones from the original 3.

SO THAT MAKES THE CURRENT COUNT:

THREE plants, 8 weeks 3 days in veg
-Axilla - (Durple x OGDiesel)
-Suzy Greenberg - (Durple x OGDiesel)
-Funky Bitch - (Durple x OGDiesel)

TWO seedlings, 2 weeks 3 days in veg
-Unnamed (Purple Island x OGDiesel)
-Unnamed (Durple x OGDiesel)

SIX clones, 6 days rooting

-The three on the left are from Funky Bitch, so they'll be an indica leaning Durple x OGDiesel Pheno
-The three on the right are from Axilla, so they'll be a sativa leaning Durple x OGDiesel Pheno

Either way, I've named the strain Oort Cloud and will be referring to it from here on out as such...
DON'T GET ME WRONG, I'll have to sample the nugs after harvest before I can confidently call it Oort Cloud, but I have a feeling it'll fit. So, to be confirmed!

Check out the setup. As soon as I get an HPS in a few days I'll be throwing the original 3 into flower. I just took clones off of FunkyB and Axilla so you'll notice they are lookin' a little skinny. SuzyG had no clones taken but was pruned recently. I think i'm gonna take a few clones from it before I throw it into flower, it's really startin' to show up lately! You'll also notice my two seedlings on the left, getting pretty big! 2+ weeks of veg, and they were just transplanted into 1-gallon pots last week so they should be blowin' up soon. The daily growth is crazy, I really am doing things right this time, i can feeeeel it.

Yo! Thanks for being the only one to chat in here I wish I knew, I woulda responded earlier!

Yeah, pretty much an instant 12/12 once we lock down the HPS besides whatever prep I decide to do. The clones showed their first roots today in a solo cup!! A Funky Bitch clone... she will live on! Honestly there is no plan, I first did it to practice and get some experience and to leave their futures open ended. I'm probably going to mutiliate the shit out of them so I can practice more HST/LST.

speaking of....

I FIMMed Axilla! She's been lookin' real nice since i untied her from her LST, and since she's already taken some abuse I figured I've give her more. After all, I DID clone her (we'll also call the clones contingency plans )





I also cut a bit of the top of the Purple Island / OGDiesel seedling in a fimmlike fashion because its stretching sooo much more than the OGDurple seedling next to it. To be expected given the genetics!

I assume the plants are going to respond just beautifully to the pruning, as i've honestly never see anything but fat, concentrated stalks and nugs as a result... but then again these are my first plants grown from seed. they all look great either way. Funky Bitch is becoming my least favorite because of its height... screwin' up my entire operation

I took the dome off a few days ago as you can see in the most recent pics. The RH% in the room has been 40-50 since adding the huge bowls of water around the plants. I wanted to let the coco in the cups dry out a bit as theyre finally starting to do, which seemed to initiate the root stretch. Upon drying out theyll get their first feeding! very excited. I dig skipping rooting them in tiny plugs and just putting them in their inevitable home from the get go.

I'll take some SuzyG clones next, shes so so bushy!

It's funny how far these plants have come under a 3-bulb T5. It's also funny having literally 11 plants vegging under them at the moment

Oh well, if anyone was ever looking for what exactly a t5 can do, here ya go! I understand 9 weeks is a long time to veg, but given all factors I'm pretty happy with the current state of affairs.

Funky Bitch is growing TOO TALL, it's screwin' up my operation! I may have to top her and clone the top, that'd be fun

Well, now that all clones have roots, I'm gonna feed and let them basically develop a seedling-like root structure and then put them all in 1-gallon smart pots. HOPEFULLY by that time we'll have an HPS for the other three main plants.
