Swollen Calyx'...What Causes This?

I have been growing WW from Seedsman for several months. I have been using clones from the same mother. After the first 2-3 plants were grown out and harvested, I have started to see the latest plants that are displaying swollen calyx. It also appears the buds are more dense and I was curious, what causes a calyx to swell?

The only thing that has changed is the flower room temps. During the summer, these temps were running about 84-85 degrees. Now, my temps in flower are running about 10 degrees cooler. Everything else has remained the same.

I believe swollen calyx is also strain dependant but this is the same strain and same plant. I am just using clones. Anyway, I am very please that this is occuring and I love the look. I was just curious what causes this and what can be done to repeat this on my other plants?

Could be a natural thing brought on by colder temps, it gets colder in nature towards the end so it only makes since.

how about the fact that each new bunch of clones is older so more potent, swollen with sticky resin ?

Wait a sec.... clones get BETTER? I thought they got worse, like if u cloned a plant, then cloned the clone and so on.... Does it get better then, or worse? An interesting topic, to me neways.

it works both ways when your talk about 5 gen clone you ok but when you get up to 16 gen clone now your talking problems suchas mutants and shit its more if you try to seed it out that you get really big problems

and for sure cold fattens you buds I try to replicate this in my room for th elast 3 weeks dorp about a degree a day or so

Say what?

Plant characteristics change with maturity, but a clone will never change unless you bombard it with gamma rays. It doesn't matter how many times you take a clone from a clone.... unless it's an unhealthy clone; then that will fuck things up.

I never use a clone as a mother unless it has rooted inside of single digit days.

Did that sound weird? I mean to say, I won't use a clone as a mother plant unless it has rooted in 9 days or less.

Thanks for the replys. I figured it was probably due to the cooler temps. I have also had to tie these same WW due to heavier buds, that during warmer temps, I did not have to tie. I have only been growing indoors for about a 9 months so this will be the first winter of growing. So far, I really like the results with the cooler temps. The calyz swelling is awesome but the way my plants are reacting is very surprising.

Even though my temps were not out of control, I believe my plants were stressed. After seeing how they perform now, I am sure of it. I have been getting about 1-1.5 oz's per plant. I will be curious to see if the yields are that much better.

Thanks for the input guys. :weed:
