Surgical Amputation, can I keep the limb alive?

Has anybody ever taken a flowering stem (3 1/2 wks) and kept it alive in H2O until harvest? They are sitting in a 8"x12" basin with approx 1-1 1/2" H2O & molasses. Off the main plant for 1 1/2 wks. Yesterday I pulled them out and checked the stem, and it showed no signs of rot, but I cut another 1" off the bottom just to freshen it up. They are continuing to put out new flowers. I'm not trying to root them or anything like that, just would like to see them mature a little more before I harvest. Think this is possible?? Thanks in advance for ideas and suggestions. HH

I would still use a humidity dome just to keep it alive. My mom does that to flower cuttings and they dont last longer than a week.

i've kept them alive like that for about a month, the hardest part for me was not drying it and smoking it up.
