"super soil" type soils vs. Sunshine Mix

Anyone have experience using both? I was planning on making a soil very similair to Subcool's updated 2010 formula, but if this "Sunshine mix" soil is the same stuff pre-mixed and already in a bag, I would consider that, to save myself the 30-day period of letting my freshly mixed soil sit.

So my question, does this Sunshine Mix (#4 or any mixes) compare to your own mixed soil?

If you had read a little closer, SS#4 is one of the 'base soils' for making Super Soil.

I make my own mix, but #4 would benefit from amending.

Thought it was going to be simple, huh?

From what ive heard, sub's soil doesn't need to be fed nutrients throughout the whole grow cycle. So if that's something that interests you then do that If you want a little more control or want to go hydro then you would probably want to use Sunshine mix

What Wet said, the sunshine mix is a "base" or starting point for making super soil so if its super its going to be at least that + a whole lot more.

Take [insert brand soil here] and then add [add your organics here] and you get = SUPER SOIL!
Some people take it even further and dont start with a base, they will go and make their own from the parts and pieces that comprise something like sunshine mix.

So you have three routes really
1) Use the store bought with the knowledge that your probably going to have to use checmical ferts (alot) to get the plants all the way in good health.
2) Take your store bought mix and amend it with organics to create your super soil that should only need minimal outside nutrition.
3) start from scratch and mix up everything yourself, your in control of everything from drainage to nutrient holding capacity of the soil.... experts only.

I did option two, had been using fox farms soil for awhile and just started recycling it and building it up with organics between runs instead of throwing it out and getting new. You would never know it used to be fox farms because now its RandomseedFarms soil ;-)
Best move I ever made. Have not bought a bag of soil in like 2 years now, just earth worm castings every couple months.
