Super Soil Pail Layering Question

My Scenaro:
I'll be running SubCool's SuperSoil and gear (Plushberry). 7 gallon plastic pails not pots. I need plastic because pots are too wide for my small grow space. I'll be drilling them out and line with landscape fabric to function like Smart Pots. 600W HPS

I'll be planting cracked seeds right into the center of the pail surface. In a small recess of Pro-Mix Ultimate Seeding Mix and a touch of Perlite. So the seedling will be growing in the pails right from the start. I'll select out the male pails.

My Reading Here:
I'm wondering about the amount of SuperSoil, since so many have done it slightly different ways. I have read and seen the SubCool version, which is 1/4 to 1/3 aged SS on the bottom, the balance is straight base soil mix like Roots. Sounds good because I don't want to deviate from the man's plan. But then I see others use maybe 50% SS on the bottom, and they like it. Some of this depends on the strain, I realize.

Then I saw SubCools transplant video where he loads some straight (aged) SS, then blends a middle layer of SS and Roots. That seemed like a good idea as it cooled that second layer. I could have a third layer that was straight Roots.

My Question:
My worry is that the seedling will take off and hit that blended area of soil quickly. Would this be bad? Alternately I could blend a center layer with less SS

Thanks

You can't start seeds in super soil period and the fact your trying means you have failed to research this through as I have made it clear by stating:
DO NOT START SEEDS OR CLONES IN THIS MIX

The roots will go straight down and your plants will die no ifs and or buts.

My preferred method is to start the seeds in rapid rooters then transplant into 1 gallon pots of Roots, Biobiz or Happy Frog until plants developed enough to be transplanted.

Hope this helps

LOL. Don't sweat it Rog. SubCool posted this great recipe which is the result of years of experience and backed by probably thousands of other growers. He's sensitive to the constant barrage of similar questions, that's all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcun2j-WX8A

Check out that recent video, where he outlines the transplant protocol nicely. I'm a newb and it made great sense to me. The point for you is that the roots dig deep early on. They don't lounge in that upper cool soil layer as you had hoped.

Welcome to the forum.

Thank you for the hospitality Tjames. I can appreciate his perspective. In retrospect the roots headed down fast seems like a dumb question. Thanks for that link also.
