super soil in a 4x4 bed ?

I recently bought a geoplanter 4x4 bed to put on top of my 4x4 tray to try a sea of green grow. its cool and has a trellis built into the pvc frame. I want to put it under 1 600w with the xxl magnum reflector over the bed and use 16 clones. Im wanting to get 1 lb per 600w which is slightly less then 1 gram per watt. I was planning on using straight coco and feeding with tea's, but this idea of using 4-5 inches of super soil on the bottom and regular roots soil on top popped into my head after watching my jilly bean and pineapple casey jones just become monsters in 10 gallon containers with my latest batch of super soil. the planter is 12" deep and somewhere around 80 gallons total.

anybody ever attempted super soil in a grow bed before? I am worried that using super soil with clones that would be vegged only 3 weeks or so might be to hot and stunt/hurt growth during flower.

I'm sure it would be fine. Sub has said that he knows people who grow in Super Soil the entire way through with good results. He just advises people to use a regular base soil at first to ensure that plants don't get burned. However, if you wanted to do it all the way through I think it would work fine.

I would still layer the bottom half of the bed with Super Soil and the top half with a regular base soil, though.

I have grown 10 of my autos before in a 10" deep 22"w 36"L tub with 5" of supersoil in the bottom, the rest Roots...did great... you should have no problem...but I would use 6" of super soil instead of your purposed 4-5", unless your plants are very very light feeders...

I think Ill have to try it, ive been thinking about it today, and the only problem I forsee is not getting enough of a root ball established before it hits the super rich soil. By the end even if theres a hot soil issue for the unkown strain i know the flowers will be superb and a+ in smoothness and flavor. I hope they get me the "girl scout cookies" strain lol

shared beds are the shit bro, I'm doing a couple now, and just finished one recently that did really well. Gotta get the mix right, but the shared bed idea works really good. I put 16 plants in my 4x4 also, but I had more light than that, but 600 watts should be plenty.

AH! good to hear wheezer! Not alot of people seem to have experience with beds on the forums. how lon did you veg? from clone or seed? any pics ?

did you use super soil or just organic soil in general? If i can get the beds to work the way i need them to, Ill be adding another 4x4 tray w/ 4x4 geoplanter w trellies to the other side of my tent. maybe a coco vs. super soil bed thread would be in the makings..

I grow in a 4x4 tent under a 600w light in a 65g smart pot with super soil and it works amazing.

Progression - day from seed entering soil

Day 1,5,9

Day 13,18,20

Day 22, 29/5, 32/7

36/11, 39/15 two plants removed, 41/17

48/22, 51/25, 58/32

62/36, ?/?, 82/56

This was a 13oz organic harvest with two plants down. I assume that had the other two plants not been male it would have been 1lb+.

o wow! sweet slideshow gastanker! so that container looks to be around 12" tall or so, did you go with 50/50 super soil/ bagged soil like normal? thats some inspiration right there!

wow, now all i need is the big plants that are currently finishing in its place to hurry up, and Ill be taking some pictures of my setup.

thanks man

I make my own "super soil". If you're following Subs recipe I'd mix it at whatever ratio he recommends. I want to say the 65g smart pots are 36" in diameter and either 18" or 22" tall.
