Suggestions for a 5x5 room?

Whats up guys. Just got a new grow room which is 5x5x7 foot. Was going to use it for a flower room as i already have a 3x3x6 foot tent. Ive read that LEDs dont flower as good as an HPS which is what im using now. But if i can save energy and still get good buds i would rather go that route lol. I was looking into ProGrow 260s. What would you guys do in this situation? Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Personally I would want at least 750 watts of output in that space. To me the expense of outfitting with LED doesn't make sense to achieve the same or lesser results as say a 1000W HPS. Spending the extra money is justifiable when it provides a noticeable improvement over HPS in the same space. Would cost $2000 or over to go retail, maybe 1 grand if you DIY it. If I were to DIY that space I would shoot for 800 watts of output, or about 900 with driver efficiency and fan power.

I'm running 350 watts of output in a 10 foot area getting about 1.2 GPW so far. I believe I can do better but I recently read about someone pulling in 1.5 GPW and 3 zips per square foot with 600w HPS bulbs. LED is perfect for the space I use, but if I had a 5x5 to work with I would do some serious thinking before dismissing HPS.

16 x Vero 18 - @ $12.61 = 202
16 x drivers - @ $9 = 144
16 x Arctic - @ $11 = 176

$496 total plus misc, less than $600 for 800w that placed properly would crush a 1k hps

This time next year, replace just the Vero chips with the CXC3070 high bin for an easy 30-40% boost in output. Or wait another year for the following generation, still just a chip upgrade.

What drivers are you referring to? and thanks!

I said 30-40% boost in output, not efficiency. And the upgrade will do that easily, in fact my guestimate was low.

Even with V2.0 chips Vero 18s will put out approx 5.2k lumens @ 1.5a and 44w
CXB3070 will output about 7.5k lumens @ 1.5 and 52.5w

So due to the higher draw, the difference is already at 45% today. Add in another year or two of efficiency gains and 50% is in the bank.

I don't know why anyone would willingly run a Vero 18 over 1.4 amps (horribly inefficient; more heat). Would be better off running with 29s.
It is an inexpensive way to get started with a clear upgrade path, that requires nothing more than changing the chips. The question was how to replace a 1k hps in a 5x5. Then it was stated that LED was too expensive. So I gave a reasonable solution to both problems with the flexibility to allow simple upgrades. If you wanted to run them lower, you could but then you would be running the next gen chips lower as well, or buying new drivers. Since we are already planning to replace them in a couple of years, the shorter life caused by running them hot is moot. They could also be paired with smaller drivers and sinks after being replaced and used for side or intra-canopy lighting.

I'm a little confused. As I understand it you have 3x3 tent you want to convert to just veg? What light are you running there? And now you have a new 5x5 to use exclusively for flower? And you want know what is the best light for a 5x5 flower room? Or you want to know what is the best LED for a 5x5 flower room?

I'm glad you started this. I'm trying to do basically the same thing. I want to cover 4.5x4.5 foot areas.

Don't know shit about drivers. Looking at these: Meanwell LPF-90-42 and LPC 150-2100.

Between 5-9 COB's. CXB3070, Vero 29, or CXB3590. I want to run 6-700 watts or so. If I only ran the COB's at 52 watts it would take 14 for each light.

(9) Meanwell LPF90's. (9) CXB3070's from Digikey plus coolers and hardware would be like thousand bucks. I don't know shit about selecting drivers though.

Yes i was using the tent for veg and flower. I was running a 600w MH/HPS and Yes i would like to know the best LED in the 5x5 flower room would be. I wanna try DIY but have no idea where to start lmao
Really want LEDs for efficiency for such big of a room. Ive seen some really nice looking plants but with really expensive ones and i plan on using T5s in the veg tent.

(5) Vero 29 around $150
(5) Meanwell LPC-150-2100 around $240
(5) Arctic coolers around $60

$450 would be nice. This would have to be confirmed with SupraSPL. Probably not super efficient running 130 watts or whatever to each COB. Also, wouldn't be the best spread with 5 COB's over a 20.25 square foot area.

This is the golden question I've been trying to figure out for over 3 months. How do you replace a 1k HID light with LED? I think (9) COB's would be cool.

man, you're talking about a lot of money for LED on that size. I use led and really like it, but I only cover 2x2, and that cost me $439
