Sub, you certainly know a lot about grow dank. When composting you need a bit of air to make it work. Composting is aerobic as it is a living thing.

This is hilarious. you guys need to learn there is a reason for respect, so just obey. lol, works for everyone.

We are not making compost. we are letting the microbes in the soil establish themself, prepare the NPK in there for the plant to decide what it wants to eat.

Turn it every once in a while. That is all the air you need. The celebrity guest speaker gave you this in his lecture. Take notes.

My apologies sub from everyone here at RIU for the ridiculous questions and *ahem* slightly offbeat answers you have had to review here. If it was not for your "supersoil" column I would be in the dark ages of pot growth. Looking thru hydro catologues for whatever weekly liquid fert I could rely on. Ridiculous! It was not until I turned to the pre-amending with dry ferts style of the "super soil" that I was ever happy with my progress as a soil grower.

So thanks a bunch for taking your time to read these threads here.

look man, i wasn't trying to disrespect subcool, i was trying to learn. i asked a question that i had not found a definitive answer for and it went unanswered in this thread. so, instead of just letting it die down i did some investigating and posted my findings for others who may have had the same question. when sub asked where i found my responses i answered honestly.

really i am not trying to modify subs recipe or pretend that i know more than him. to be honest i've already gone back and taped the holes i drilled up so i could emulate his recipe as close as possible.

When you say just water, is this plain tap? My tap water is horrible. Usually a TDS of 250-450 and god knows the chlorine levels. Should I use RO water with cal mag or maybe a mix of RO and tap? I tried reading through all the pages of posts but am a bit dyslexic and probably skimmed over the answer. Thanks in advance bro. You have given me renewed hope for a completely easy organic soil grow. Also, until I get the mix ready after cooking, can I use a mix of Light Warrior and Happy Frog? I want to start a couple beans for now until the super soil is ready.

I am wondering if i mix the FF + LW soil mix, would i still need to mix in the guano and blood/bone meals ect... since most your ingredients are already in FF soil? i want chem-free buddha too!!!

well I can vouch for ocean forest and organicare aeration mix mixed for super soil. I can also vouch for just using light warrior with super soil amendments and having imake it through a veg good. I can only say veg as I transplant to ocean foresst and organicare for flower and later veg. However I am having mixed results using peat and sub NPK formula. I know it is a vastly difreent thing. But after using peat I am worried I ruined a batch of meds. Anybidy have anything to say on peat experiments and super soil. I know this is for the heavily amended pre bougt soils but I tried it all.


I use ro water and no cal mag as I figure that the Bone blood and kelp or whatever breaks down and gives it all it needs. That is my first year opinion so take it with salt folks. I beleive the chlorine in the tapwater will kill you r soil food web of bacteria and myco that feed and take care of your plant as far as everything it needs goes. If this were synthetic nutes then things might be diferent, but not a lot. The soil food web "cooking" it for two weeks to a few months builds is what makes this a ll work best!

If you water sucks then yes it needs to be filtered with an RO machine

I am lucky and have great water here but my partner has to water filter his

dont forget to add back cal/mag as the RO will remove all from your water

I'm in a situation that I think you can relate to, after being hammered with questions about the specific brands/concentrations. The first time I made your soilmix I just grabbed boxes that matched up with your list, keeping it simple, w/o much regard for brand names, or percentages. I used the soil and it worked out great (I did have one strain that did not tolerate the high EC, but was not surprised as you had mentioned this happens). So I headed out last week to grab ingredients, bigger bags this time, to make enough for the winter/early spring season, but ran into some trouble. The original store I had purchased from has since closed. The new place that sells in bulk has a huge selection of lime products and nothing called Sweet Lime specifically. The little store made it easy, 'Bag of lime, please. Thank you. Goodbye." Since it'll be a 50kg bag, I want to buy the right product.

Sweet Lime, I am told, is also Agricultural Lime with a Ca:Mg ratios as high as 50:1. Whereas, Dolomite Lime ratios of Ca:Mg are closer to 2:1. In your most recent list you include Sweet Lime and then in brackets (Dolomite). This is confusing as they are two different products with drastically different Ca:Mg ratios. It's one or the other and I have no idea which one I bought initially, the shop only had one kind. Which one would you choose?

I'm assuming the 50:1 ratio Sweet Lime since you add Epsom salts for Magnesium, but I'd love some feedback. Thanks for doing what you do. Also, what's this Deep Purple I've been hearing about?

I like you had to buy a bag of Dolimite that weighed like 50 pounds and I have been using the same product for like 5 years now. There are better limes on the market that break down faster but this seems to work just fine

Nah, I haven't purchased an over sized bag of Lime yet...hahah. That' why I figured I'd ask first. The 50lbs bag was actually of Rock Phosphate, I was mistaken, the Lime comes in 40lbs bags for 7 dollars + tax. But you're right, even 40lbs of lime would last me a lifetime and then some. So which one do you have Sub, Dolomite or Sweet Lime? What's the name printed on the bag/box? Ca:Mg ratio?

@1sofakingg: I don't think Sub prefers Harvest Moon over Roots. Roots is currently the recommended soil for the SuperSoil mix, which is certainly available in your neck ov da woodz.

hi, again. thanks for your previous answer. inasmuch as i'd like to grow sativas mainly, i'd like some additional information following up on a couple earlier comments by you.

way early in this thread, you indicated that, while you'd start with 35-50% supersoil (by volume), it may be necessary to increase that for strains which need more nutrients. Most of the strains which i am considering (sativas) seem to require more nutrients; the question is: how do they get them?

you've also mentioned that you top dress your plants about 30 days (3 weeks?) into flowering. this also comes into play with my question.

there seems to be two ways (that i can see):

1) put more supersoil in the 10-gal. pot to begin with. this would seem to increase the likelihood that the roots of the transplanted plant will reach 'hot' soil before it may be desired.
2) perhaps top dress the soil more than once, with a second treatment later on in the grow.

would you please help me think through this? thanks for your help.

In you case with plants that you feel will need more food I would concider a larger container this is how we handle Space Queens Nitrogen hogging
I would say that my sats and hazes do not use more foods though.

Thanks for the reply. I thought I subscribed to this thread and just saw your reply. Thanks for helping all of us out! I'll keep you posted on how my next crop turns out with your mix. I'm looking forward to getting some of your beans. I see that Space Queen needs more of the mix. That's good to know. When I get your seeds, do you give the info on requirements such as: canopy type, whether they like higher doses of nutes, flower time, etc...?
