Strange smell from CFLs

Hey I have a micro grow with 5x 23W cfls placed in a row and since I installed a plexi heatshield to separate the light chamber there has been a weird smell coming out of my box.The cfls aren't touching the plexi or anything else. The temperature right above the clfs is 111,2 F (44 celsius) and they are around 2-3 months old.

Does anyone else have funny smell from cfls and is that something to be worried about?

Thanks

Most likely something to due with the plexiglass if you just installed it and haven't noticed it before. Just to be safe though, you should give your wiring a once over. Check all the connections make sure they are tight and look for obvious signs of overheating such as melted/burnt plastic. There's no such thing as too careful when it comes to electricity.

My CFL'S don't smell but I have burnt out a few switches and bulbs so I'd be on the look out and just my opinion but isn't 111.2 kind of hot?

I have checked the plexi and there is no smell or visible deformations. Will put the plexiglass even further from lights to be safe and see if that solves the problem,my plants wont be as close to the clfs but a little stretch is better then a melting/fire hazard although I don't smell plastic and the smell is not strong, you only notice it when you enter the room.
Thanks for suggestions

EDIT: Read this on the internet: 'When they are 1st turned on they need 24hrs of being on to burn in the gases in the lamp, some of these gases escape through the glass and remove a small outer layer of the glass. These combined make the smell.'

Until now they were directly cooled by a fan and I could hold them without even a warm feeling so maybe now that they get properly hot that what I copy/pasted is happening.
