Stealthy Purple Pineberry Scrog DWC-LED grow

Hey All - Long time lurker here. I have a few successful grows under my belt and although I haven't directly participated in the community before today - this site has always been a great resource for me.

Well I got the itch to start up another grow and figured I would start a journal to document the progress and get a little more involved here.

This grow will be a stealth(ish) grow. The cabinet/box is a convert piece of furniture that I built from scratch with the purpose of growing ultimately in mind. The internal dimensions are approximately 42"L x 22"W x 36"H with a raised floor for light proof passive air intakes.

I am growing out 2 feminized Purple Pine-berries in a DWC under a P450 LED lamp.
Nutrient Line used is Advanced Nutrients Grow/Micro/Bloom + B-52.Voodoo,Overdrive and Big bud. In addition I have Cal-Mag when needed, and Hygrozyme

Reservoir is a converted storage tote that is about 12 gallons but due to net pot depth is filled with 5 gallons of nutrient solution. Due to the low temp LED and good airflow (and the fact the the reservoir is wrapped in aluminized bubble-wrap and panda-poly) the reservoir temps sit at a nice 65-68 F

Box is exhausted by a converted Panasonic Whisperline bathroom ceiling fan rated at 110CFM, fitted with a custom carbon scrubber that contains 6lbs of carbon. I cant say enough good things about this fan, cheap for the decibel level, easy to modify, highly recommended if it fits in your design. The reservoir and the fan stand are isolated by sorbothane vibration pads so no noise transfers to the cabinet.

The reservoir is pH and EC are constantly monitored by a couple Milwaukee's decent equipment for the price! (<$100)

Currently, in place of the SCROG screen I have a 30% Shade cloth/fabric stretched over the mounting points for the screen. The recommended distance for the P450 is North of 24 inches and closer to 30-34 for seedlings. Given the limitations of the cabinet, the furthest I can go from the top of the screen (not the plant top at their current height) is ~24 inches. To prevent damage to the seedlings I figured this was the best method. I tried doubling up the 30% but the seedlings were stretching for light, and they seem pretty happy with the current amount of light.

You'll notice the girl on the left is a little droopy. I was a bit confused as to why she would be droopy (looks like over-watering) and the plant next door, in the same reservoir, would be absolutely fine. I discovered the water level was a little high and above the base of the net pot. If the plant on the left was deep in the netpot and the rapid rooter had wet feet, i figured this could contribute to the droop. The reservoir is aerated by an Ehiem 400, which runs dual 5 inch round aeration stones which are fixed under the netpots, so I am not too concerned with under-aeration. For what it is worth, that pump is rated for a 120 gallon aquarium, not that there is any real correlation between DWC and fish tank aeration haha.

I did notice the roots had grown through the net pot and looked nice and healthy so I lowered the solution level to ~3/4" below the net pots. We will see how that goes, because right not its definitely a tale of two plants (visually). Both are a nice healthy green.

So that's the set up. The girls broke surface 23NOV16, so they are about 1 week old.

Current parameters for Week 1 are:

pH: 5.4-5.9 (drift slowly over the week)
EC: 0.8 or ~400ppm (with 0.5 conversion)
Solution Temperature: 67.2 F
Nutrients: 1/4 dosing of Grow, Micro, Bloom, B-52, and Voodoo + Hygozyme

Cabinet Air Temp: 74.3 F
Humidity: 49 %RH (tad lower than I want)

Plants are under 24/0. Fingers crossed for a good grow, buckle up and join me!

Little update, the lower water level was NOT well received by droopy, who managed to droop lower.

The plant on the right remains unaffected. I raised the solution level back up to it is flush with the net pot and will watch her for a few days to see how she reacts.

Any thoughts on what could cause one plant to appear to significantly different in the same environment are welcomed of course!

Just a little update:
Wrapping up the 1st week of flower, the issue above was nitrogen toxicity. It seems to have stunted one of the plants, or maybe it's just a pheno difference not sure, either way, both are healthy enough and the screen is just about maxed out, soon the only place to go will be up

First two pictures are from about two weeks ago, mostly recovered from the nitrogen tox:

This is from yesterday:

pH: 5.7
EC: 1.3
Room Temp: 76 F
Reservoir Temp: 63 F
RH: 45%

Things.... Escalated haha. Two very different stretch results from the plants, to the point where I will have diminished yields due to proximity to the light and I'm sure one will have some light bleaching soon, though stretch is 93%(?? ..Sure) done. I'll put up some pictures tomorrow, the smaller plant is going to have some nice looking lady bits though!

Next run will be one plant only, the results from the plants were too different to risk sharing the space and reservior again ( one is deficient occasionally while the other is fine or one shows signs of burn due to different nutrient requirements).

Snapped a couple pictures -
The smaller plant on the right.. her stretch was managable, albeit slightly taller than expected --

...which was only really a problem because the plant on the left is twice the size of the plant on the right. Balancing the nute levels has been a pain, as they seem to have very different nutrient level preferences yet share a reservoir.

Lesson learned - for my set up and skill level I will stick to one plant per reservoir for now

Haha the plant on the left is just foolish-- sometimes I think of cutting it down as it's size has shrunken the light footprint to basically a 0 degree spread off of the light's case, but when I peel back some layers of spindley branches if mind more dense bud growth closer to the light center so I will likely just let it finish and see what comes of it.

This girl unfortunately is the occasional victim of a minor burn as I try to balance the different requirements.

Currently EC is about 1.45 and pretty close to 4-4-8 with a little extra mag.
I flipped the light cycle 28 days ago, but really only saw frequent flower/pre-flowers 21 days ago... still many miles to go but its refreshing to see some resin development

BTW Purple Pineberry has certainly earned 33% of its name so far, arm brushed against it doing an emergency supercrop and my hand smelled like I was out in the hooks hiking - delicious fresh pine sap. Berry and Purple TBD but for now I am a happy camper
