If u have enough lighting and u grow them in optimal conditions id say a good 20gs (dry)..I grew in a cardboard box with about 25" in height and one 68watt and one 42watt cfl and ended up with 25g(dry) cola it was huge,so id say its possible.
Here is a pic of the cola

best way to get a cheap one would be to buy the case yourself (or find one) and create one to your likings. case's are made of thin sheet metal and are easily modified. you will definitely have to cut out the cd/hd area of the case. i would imagine that tin snips would do wonders. hammer over anything sharp that is left behind from the cuts. throw a old pc power supply on top of the case to power the fans, add in your light fixtures, light proof and u are in business. if your go out and buy a case and are spending over 50 dollars might as well just spend a little more and get a cheap tent online.

Even better way to go is if you can get away with a cabinet sized grow. Find or make a cabinet yourself, and the put in vents you can mount fans and a carbon filter on, and put in lights. You'll get a better yield and could grow more plants.

here's what i started with. all ya need in your cupboard is a timer, 2 computer fans, 2 surge protectors, six light sockets that plug into surge protectors and six 25watt daylight (6500k color tempature) bulbs (VEG) and (2700k bulbs for bloom)

this set up will only cost you about $80- $100 at walmart or wherever depending on how much you pay for a cabinet
i got this idea from "the little woody grow box" design from www,pcgrowcase.com

Or

go with a refrigerator set up like i use now

your lights need to be set 18 hours on & six hours off for veg with daylight bulbs (6500k color temp) and for bloom 12 hours on & 12 hours off with soft white bulbs (2700k color temp)

Same idea as the little woody grow box from www.pcgrowcase.com
