Starting seeds in Burpee seed starter greenhouse kit?

I just planted 4 diesel berry autos and 4 Dutch passion Skunk #11 seeds in a burpee seeds starter greenhouse kit. It has those pellets that swell up when water is added... Well this is my first grow attempt so I'm nervous ill do something wrong. It seems to be working well the moisture level of the soil/cubes is not too saturated or dry and I have it resting on my stove top which is always nice and warm(about 75-80 degrees F). The dome is always very full of condensation so it seems to be doing what it is supposed to. I emptied a bit of the extra water in the tray because it seemed like the directed amount would keep the soil too wet.

Its been 24 hours now and I periodically check the soil to make sure it doesn't dry out and stays moist and warm. Anything else I should or could be doing to improve my germination rate? I plan on putting them under a couple of 125W grow lights after they get some leaves until they are large enough to be transplanted into soil pots which will go outside. I plan on using fox farms potting soil for them once in pots, I'm not sure if I should use 5 gallon or larger pots? I'm a growing virgin so any tips or help would be appreciated. Thanks! :leaf:

They do dry out easily so as long as your keeping an eye on that you should be fine.
After 24 hours they seem to be maintaining their moisture very well. I was expecting to have to add water to the tray but I was more concerned with making sure they were not to saturated so far. How long before I know if the seeds are going to sprout or if they are not ?

Burpee has a "Self watering seed starter kit" walmart 20 bux or something. 16 slots, coco coir pellets, raised tray with highly absorbing mat below it soaking in your water and a germ-sheet to cover until your first one pops. it works well. I did 16 bag seed in one last year with no germ. all 16 popped.

It's been 36 hours since I started them and I have a cucumber that just popped but none of the weed yet... Praying I get at least a few of them to pop!

just be patient. after 5 days of nothing, use a toothpick or small straw to move to soil around and check the seed. see if any taproot's have popped out. I've waited as long as 14 days for a sprout from a non-germinated seed. next time try to paper towel germ method. or BCBudDepot suggests to soak them for 48 hours, changing the water after 24, and then plant them with or without roots

It's been 48 hours and only 1 cucumber seed has sprouted.. None of the weed. The soil stays really moist in these and the recommended amount in the tray would have left them saturated. They medium has maintained a pretty even moisture level and a lot of condensation builds on the greenhouse dome. I'm keeping a close eye on them though.

I always plant seeds directly into FoxFarm Ocean Forest or a similar soil. Water with distilled water until germination(anywhere from 5-14 days). Be patient. Much like a watched pot never boils, a watched seedling takes FOREVER to germinate...

Yea lol I know what you mean! I did use warm distiller water when I started. And had to add a tiny bit more to the tray lady night as the water was gone. The cucumbers seeds on the other side of the tray have sprouted so I guess I'm doing something right. I planted tomatoes and eggplant also along with my weed but none of those have sprouted yet. I'm glad hear that it usually takes more time than this. I've been able to keep the medium at the same moisture level throughout and nice and warm so hope I'm good.. Thanks

I always soak my seeds in water for 48 hrs then stick them in a paper towel for two daysin a plastic bag wet of course ... this makes your taproot start nice and long and strong just try to avoid direct light to root and no touching root that thing will pop in two days

The next time I grow I'll prob germinate the seeds. Now I'm just holding my breath and praying... I've never had a green thumb and it has always bothered me. I always make it more difficult than it prob needs to be. Once I get the seeds to sprout I will be ok but man it's gonna drive me mad while I wait to see!

It's been 4 days and a lot of the cucumbers have sprouted along with cantaloupe, watermelon and eggplant... But none of the 5 marijuana seeds have. The tomatoes seeds I put in also have not sprouted and I'm getting worried I wasted the money on these seeds! Should I check one to see what's going on or just leave them longer??? I have them on a heated surface so there warm and the soil is moist but not too wet, I planter pad them about 1/4 in down so I don't know what's wrong. I thought weed seeds would sprout first if anything? Seems like there tougher to grow than one might think a weed would be. I'm about ready to just call it a loss and forget about em.:dunce:

go ahead. pull em all out and put them in a warm wet paper towel, inside a baggie. but becareful. make sure no taproot is exposed or seed casing split open already. if it's split and no taproot is exposed, it may have rotted. but like I said a few days ago. I've waited as long as 14 days for a sprout.( I personally am bad about checking my seeds. daily after germinating then planting.) it can stress them or shock them. I lost a white rhino because of checking the seeds so much.

I'll check one of the seeds I got from bag weed and seed what's up.. If there is a tsp root then should I just cover it back up?

I carefully checked the bag seed and it had nothing going on so ill just toss that one..I then gently checked the skunk seed and it had split and had a small tap root coming out so I put it back under and left the soil a bit more lose than before.

perfect. you can check the others if you want. just don't go crazy checking them (as I do). make sure any taproots are pointing down. and if no taproot you can do what you'd like. personally if I paid for it, i'd do whatever I could to try to get it popped. even just leaving it alone for a few extra days. when I germed my last bunch, I started on the 1st of march. the AK popped on the 5th and sprouted on the 8th. GrapeGum popped on the 7th sprouted the 9th. Royal Kush popped the 7th and sprouted on the 10th. Blue dream popped on the 8th and sprouted on the 10th. and sour diesel #2 popped on the 14th and sprouted on the 15th. all were put into wet/warm paper towels separately and then into separate bags the morning of March 1st. see it all depends on the seed and strain.

The rest of them had a tap root visible when I gently looked. I just covered them back up with the soil a little looser above as I think it had compacted a bit too much.
