Starting germination

I am pretty much finished with my deluxe room and want to start germinating in a germination station that I got. I got some hydroton clay can I start a seed in this or do I have to use some finer material like rockwool or peat so the small root fiber has something to grab because the hydroton are pretty large. or can I crush the hydroton so that the material is finer. I have been reading alot and believe in educating myself before trying anything. This site is a godsend and iwould like to contribute by growing my palnts with all of you as my critics so I will be posting images regularly if thats ok. For your info I have white widow seeds and northern lights * haze. I will be using coolwhite flourescents for seedlings clones and veg and dual 600 watt hps for flowering. By the way what do you guys think of Gavita bulbs. Jorge Cervantes says they are very efficient in his book. Also how much faster would the plants grow with an MH instead of Flourescents. I will also be using a 6 tray Aeroponics unit with (4) 5 inch net pots per tray for a total of 24 plants. I am going touse hydroton clay for the net pots does anyone recommend using soil or rockwool instead.
I also bought bigfoot nutrients are they any good.

Sorry for all the questions at once Im just excited. One or more answers will be helpful. I hope that I can gain some friends here. Thanks

Take several paper towels and fold them in half to make several layers. Place the seeds in the paper towels. Put the towels on a plate, wet the towel and put it on top of your computer for warmth. Keep the towel wet, but not soaked. Check the seeds after three days and some will have sprouted by then.

Buy a slab of 1" RockWool at the hydro store. Soak then in RO or distilled water.

Once the seeds sprout, put them into the hole in the RockWool cubes. Tear off a corner of one of the cubes and use that to cover the holes. Not tightly ... be gentle.

The seedlings will break through the RockWool in a few days and yer on your way.

Once the seedlings are larger ... say on their third or forth node ... put the RockWool cubes into your netpots with the Hydroton ... then into your hydro unit. That's it.

Once they have sprouted in paper towels place them in pre-soaked rockwool and then put in the germination station.

My seeds are sprouted and I have them in rockwool now. All of the white widows sprouted but only 7 of the 30 northern lights * haze germinated. any ideas? They seem so delicate right now. Should I leave the humidity dome on or take it off at this point? Also How long before I begin to fertilize right now im just using distilled water.

For the info Im using an aerojet aeroponics unit equipped with 6 trays and 4 5 inch net pots per tray. Im going to upload some pics of the babies tomorrow.

Thanks

Keep the others in damp paper towels and keep warm... sometimes it takes a while. Leave the dome slightly adjar until they have first set of leaves. I took my dome off at that point and just misted them several times a day while under some CFLs. You don't want them to stretch for light too much if under the dome. Also, don't fertilize until you get them into the hydro setup and then go with 200ppm to start.

do you think id be able to just put my seeds into the soaked rockwool cube, then go on vacation for 3 days, and come back.
do you think they would germinate theirselves.
