Hello Friends,
OK, so I started 5 pandoras box seeds using the paper towel method. 4 of 5 cracked and the tap root emerged. I then placed them in Jiffy peat pucks reconstituted with filtered water. The planted seeds were placed in the propagator and placed on a heat source (DVD player After 7 days no seedlings emerged. I dug them up and they looked waterlogged and the little tap was brown and shrivelled
I think I must have just left too much water in the peat and they "damped-off".
Well, as the spring is nearing its end here in the Valley of the Sun, I am anxious to get something growing and begin hardenning-off. As I am a relative noobie, I am reluctant to sacrifice more expensive genetics on my inexperience and mistakes.
I just started 5 more seeds, but made some changes. Tell me what you think.
I am using bagseeds to practice with this time. I know that the plants that are grown out will only be as good as the genetics I start with, but damn, seeds are too costly to waste on trial and error. I decided to try the Jiffy peat again, but I'm sowing the seeds directly in the peat (eliminating the paper towel step) and placing them outside on the porch in the propagator. I squeezed more water from the puck and only put the seeds in ~1/2cm.
We'll see. At least this time if they die, it will only be bagseeds that are lost. I still have 10 Hindu Kush and 5 Pandoras Box in reserve for next planting.
