So here we are again...stumped. Looking at our plant and wondering WTF!!! Surely by now (42 days) it should be bigger...lol. We ALWAYS use distilled water and ALWAYS check the ph. We keep it at 5.5-5.9. We are using our bedroom to grow in and the A/C is ALWAYS set to 72F. Our plants are 42 days old today and we have periodically gave them nutes. At around 14 days we watered them with 1/2 strength nutes. General Hydroponics FloraGrow, and General Hydroponics FloraMicro. That night we noticed some burning of the tips of leaves. The next morning we woke up to the leaves being close to 1/3 the way burned...Obviously we thought of "nute burn". So, that whole next week we watered with distilled water only and new growth started good again. We did see that by the time the new set of leaves grew the previous set started turning yellow-brown. Also, our plant stopped growing taller. After, a week of that, (stunned growth) we decided that maybe it's a nute deficency. So, we decided to try adding them again only 1/4 strength this time. Again, the next day new growth was showing signs of "nute burn". So, we watered them with distilled water for the next week. Everything started growing green again, but was still not growing taller. So, since we had been using FloraGrow and FloraMicro, I thought that maybe we could use one and not the other. So, I watered 1/4 strength FloraMicro only, again with the "burn". After a yet another week I tried only FloraGrow...again with the burn...So, here we are now..watering with ONLY DISTILLED WATER and plants aren't F**king growing. WTF are we doing wrong?? You can see by the pics that there are plenty of nodes where new leaves have grew but keep dying. Lights = 8-23w/100w equivalent CFLS.:spew:

Dude your plants are tiny! Why are you forcing nutes on them at such a young age? You should have just let them grow to a nice size before adding nutes, the soil has more than enough to get them started...
I'd say, stop feeding them, until they're the size of a nice small plant, then 'consider' it. These plants can grow fantastically without any nutes.

for one....staff is here to moderate the forums. they arent picked based on growing experience....just interaction with the forums. they are the law enforcers.

two....elites arent picked...and damn sure not from experience. they are elite because they paid to be elite....

third.... you are burning them with nutes. you are growing with cfls....come down on the nute strength and you should be good.

all the food you are giving them doesnt matter. they dont have enough light to process it. photosynthesis much?

We have reduced the strength to 1/4 of what the label says..we weren't even going to start nutes but people on RIU advised us to. A lot of people said 1/2 strength for seedlings;...ours are 42 days old and now we're advised to just MAYBE give them 1/4 strength nutes...?? Anyway, this is our first grow and we started them in jiffy peat pellets (couldn't find any rockwool). People on here say that they have used peat pellets for years and never had a prob...but do you think that they are holding nutes and salts from buildup? Also, we've decided to not use distilled and boil tap water, do you think that after it has been ph adjusted it will be ok?
And thank you for the Staff, Elite info. never really knew that!!!

seedlings @ 1/2 nute load?

my god....talk about burning young.

normally i wouldnt start nutes until they are 1 or 2 weeks old....... and if i did they would be on 1/4 load maybe even smaller. You just have to test and try. Remember this: you can always add water to the solution, but you cant extract the water without messing the solution up....understand? Little can be more in these type of situations.

as far as the distilled water....hell why wouldnt you want to start from pure water? using pure water with low ppms you can always feed precisely. RO/distilled water is better than 200ppm tap water....and you not knowing whas in those 200ppms.
distilled and ro water allows you to start from if not close to 000ppms

so basically you're therory is get more light and watch them grow...?...no nute prob...??

no, my theory is you are only as strong as the weakest link....

just because you give them more food doesnt mean they are going to grow.... other factors need to be checked.

if using low intensity lighting..... i would suggest babying the nute load until you figure what they like....

do you think that boiling it would make the ppm lower? I would definitely want to use which ever is better.

now that i wouldnt know.

try it out and let us know.....

do you have a tds/ppm meter?

I would guess the ppms would increase. You have dissolved salts and whatnot in the water and you are removing pure water via the steam and essentially concentrating the TDS's in less water then before the boiling. :-?

I would recommend using distilled water that you have PHed. At least until you get a handle on things.
