I'd say it's at least partly luck, not to take anything away from your effort. What kind of water are you using? Either your water or your nutes may have a natural buffer that keeps pH steady. Also, do you check it at the same time every day? pH naturally fluctuates through a range and you may be catching it at 5.8 every day.

i change my res weekly and flush weekly .i use ro water i check my ph at the different temp ranges that naturally rise through the day morning around 65 deg midday 70 and before bed 75 deg my res usually stays between 64and70 deg (25 gal but use 15 gal) i think its mostly luck too. but ill sure claim skill if i see these gals through these last 5 weeks or so

A stable pH in a fresh water system is really not much more than luck. Even with a goodly amount of carbonates to buffer aginst the lowering of pH due to excess H+ ions a system has no buffers against excess OH- ions so there is nothing to stop rises in pH other than the formaton of carbonic acids due to high levels of CO2. Otherwise it is a mater of being lucky that plan roots are naturally dying at a rate that adds enough acid to neutralize excess hydroxides. Plants take up nutrients at diffferent rates at different: light levels, temps, oxygen availability to roots, CO2 levels, states of growth, pH and fertilizer concentrates. No miracle balancing supplements are manafacturered or even exist that handle all those differing cause to changes in pH.
