SS Clarifications

2 quick questions about running super soil OUTDOORS:

1) With heavy rains should I expect not to get as much "mileage" out of my SS as I would indoors? Idea being that the good stuff in the soil is being rinsed out with the rains...

2) Cal-Mag -- with rain water only should I count on mag deficiencies or is it entirely possible that the SS will stay strong in that dept? I did not supplement my SS recipe with Cal-Mag. I have some GH liquid CalMag, should I just maybe go ahead and heavy dose now in week 3 flower?

And related to #2, since I'm here...

How the fuck do you tell the difference between mag def and N-def??

Thanks.

It's entirely possible you might get through the grow without extra mg-ca... that said can't hurt to supplement some unless you go with too much mg and lock out ca. I did have to supplement on my heavy feeders. I found that amending the soil with crab shell worked really well (hot so has to be added before the soil cooks). If you're not seeing mg deficiency no reason to give them anything more than a mild dose.

N deficiency yellows the whole leaf or part of the whole leaf. Mg deficiency leaves the interior veins green (kinda like yellow-green zebra stripes on your leaves).

Thanks man. To be clear, with N def when I see yellow leaf I will be seeing yellow veins as well yes?

Usually but not always... the Mg deficiency is always a very clear striping pattern though once you've seen it you know it. N deficiency the green gets lighter until it turns yellow. With Mg Def the inside green usually stays dark green while the outside stripes are very yellow (til the leaf dies anyway)

bongsmilieHey now, just happened across this and wanted to add that inter-veinal yellowing can also be an iron deficiency. Peace :weed:
