Spider mites.

I've been dealing with these bastards off and on for the last 2 years. I've found mighty wash to be the best at making them disappear. But for me, my grow room is in my basement some of which has a dirt floor and it is virtually impossible to sanitize an entire basement of this kind from spider mites. My growroom is enclosed within my basement in an 8x8 room but much of the enclosure is only hanging Panda film so its mostly become a huge headache for me. I didnt have them at all for the first 4 years I've been growing but they eventually showed up.
This time I'm giving one of those Hot Shot strips a go. I really didnt want to go that route because I'm just not crazy about vapor in general. I'm really sensitive to chemical smells and I can get an instant headache from certain smells but fighting these fuckers can really start to sap the fun right out of growing indoors. At least it does for me.
.......The fight continues.

I've tried every mite-killer on the planet and the best, safest, cleanest and easiest with no repeat application is to use predator mites.
everything else they will eventually build a resistance to it, and then you have virtually created an evolved spider mite with pesticide resistance.
whiiiiich is baaad...
almost everything that you use will work temporarily, but no chemical or miticide will work indefinitely
don't ask how I know this...
mites are amazing creatures, and because of their extremely short lifespan, you can have 6-10 generations of mites created in ONE grow, no shit. Think about that...
so in one year that could mean potentially up 40 generations of mites, and more importantly that's 40 generations of mites that have been exposed and have mutated/adapted to whatever pesticide you are using..
so for the hell of it, lets compare that to humans, avg generation is around 60 yrs, and that times 40 and that's like having ancestors from the BC era. 2400 yrs ago..
and alllllll of that can be achieved/mutated within a yr, and that's why spider mites are fuckin badass lil bastards..
mindboggling...
I had mites that would laugh at dichlorvos, azamax, forbid, avid, pyrethrums, and a couple others I can't recall off hand.
only thing that works everytime is a physical approach, either by frequent sprayings of like a desiccant or simply introducing a bunch of predator mites that get to go and systematically hunt down and eat the spider mites alive..
which honestly makes my heart happy to imagine them being torn apart and eaten alive, in a violent and traumatizing death...
Great advice.

your situation is similar to mine, the last five yrs I've been growing in a shed outside in the middle of a redwood forest, and there is like 5 types of spider mites around here, and no matter what I"ll get them every single grow.
I've been down that route my man, and I even lost a bet with my friend, he said predator mites would work, and I called bullshit, I had already tried them and they didn't so shit, BUT that's the whole key with predator mites, it is absolutely paramount that the correct species is chosen, otherwise they will simply take off, or hibernate.
but given the correct specie? they kick ASS at controlling mites, like WAY better than I could have imagined, that bet that I lost? well I don't like to lose bets so I let them get good and webbed before I got the predator mites, and I shit you not, within 36 hours I could see new Undamaged green growth sticking through the webs, and more importantly the webs were damn near empty, no shit, in not even two days time. In a week I couldn't find a spider mite on the plant.
lost a 100 dollar steak bet with my buddy, and his friend is my new spider mite savior, apparently organic strawberry farms all up and down the coast of California, and Oregon get BLASTED with mites, like worse than cannabis does.. but he has a pretty large and successful business doing just that alone.
In fact I believe i'm his only cannabis-customer, I think anyways
but they are a lil expensive to ship, and expensive to use, but it is THE best way, not to mention any and all sprays or treatments will leave countless lil dead spider mite bodies on your trichs, like flypaper.. not to mention their lil shits all over the place too.. disrespectful lil bastards..
but who wants to smoke that?
the predator mites clean all that up, and then they take off when the mites are gone,
done deal.
a typical application is probably around 100 bucks or so with the overnight shipping.
and that typically lasts around 3-6 months depending on the weather, hot weather as we all know makes their lifecycle/reproduction rates increase, so in the summer I sometimes need two applications, but big deal... 200 bucks is damn near worth it, JUST from saving me from the dipping, and, spraying, and rotating and re-applying that procedure every three days..
fuck all that..
i'd rather buy the mites, sprinkle them on the plants, and go do whatever-the-fuck else I need to.
2 minutes vs probably 2 hrs or so for the process of dipping/spraying/rotating the plants. and that's each time, so in all you are saving yourself like 6 hours of mite treatments, with likely hazardous or harmful chemicals
the way I look at it is that 6 hrs, broken down by the price I pay for the mites and that's roughly 17 bucks an hour, my time is worth much more than that to me. so i'm happy to spend it.
i'd pay double that price (just don't tell my buddy that)
by the way the 100 bucks is the avg cost for a treatment for around 20 plants, that's indoor plants
so depending on how many plants you have it may be more or less.

my 2 cents anyways

Thanks for the input Grease, I appreciate it. I'm a lot smaller with only 5 flowering plants and 5 vegging in a tent in another part of the basement which for some reason ( knock on wood ) never seems to get the mites. Its a small 3x5 tent and every week or so I empty it out and spray the whole thing down with Neem oil even though I dont see evidence of the bastards. But my flower room, thats a different story.
By predator mites I assume your not talking about the standard Lady bugs are you ?

ohhh no...
lady bugs are beyond useless for mites..
I could throw a pair of scrotal-influenced unwashed boxers in the growroom and that'd deter the mites better than ladybugs do
nah, predator mites are a type of mites that ONLY eat other mites.
and they rule.
best for most situations are the fallacis types (normal temps), and californicus for the higher heats.
I got my homies contact info if you need it

Has anyone completely rid themselves of spider mites once you had them, if so what did u use and can you use all the way up until harvest
If you can get your hands on diazanon will kill them and eggs 1 time only commercially available now legally

Shit is very harsh ,really I only used it in the most earliest stages of veg.Last time I had spider mites ,I ordered predator mites it cost like 50.for a little box packed with them, by harvest I couldn't find 1 spider mite.If your plants are flowering when you notice spider mites ,this is the only way to go.

Green Cleaner and Flying Skulls Nuke 'Em both advertise that they can be used up until harvest.
I'm all about this Spider Mite Eggsterminator. I just harvested spraying this on my ladies up until their end. No washing it off or anything and I have no residual smell, taste or sight of it in my cure. Killed all the PM and mites without mercy, too.

Do these mite predators actually have a specific name ? Or is that actually their name "Mite Predators" fallacis and californicus types.

I've had great success with neem oil which is organic and cheap and solved my problem straight away. But luckily I got straight onto them as soon as I saw the little bastards on one plant. I hit them with neem oil and threw in a few lady bugs ( the room is sealed) within a day of seeing them, and thank goodness none of the other plants are showing any signs of them, or any new damage :) .

I'm going to try the Habanero Chilli spray if I see any more as a lot of people have suggested this as a organic solution.

Hey guys just an update to my experience with Spider Mites ! I'm running an indoor in soil and came across the dreaded mites about a month ago. Now at first I tried the Chili spray and the Eco Neem oil, as per above ( I hastily said I had great results ) which on my first 2 sprays did seem to work. However it only sort of kept them at bay for a while, then after about a week or 2 they just started going ballistic, and spreed from one plant to the others. So now my whole room was showing the little bastards all over the leaves.

After doing some more research and giving up on the Neem oil and Chili spray. I bought the Mite-Rid Spidermite and red mite 45ml. Its about the same price as Neem oil at $30 for 45ml.. And WOW I was a bit skeptical when I bought the stuff and the first thing I read is that its mainly made of Neem oil.. However one good spray of this stuff has seem to have wiped out the entire Spider Mite population. It's been around 5-6 days since spraying it and all the leaves seems to have recovered from there little white bite makes, I went through with a microscope about 3 hours after spraying it and all the spiders were still on the plant leaves but had all died :) So a big 2 thumbs up to this stuff !
