SPIDER MITES!

Ok I know this isnt typically a hydro problem but my grow is hydro. I didnt even know what a spidermite looked like till today. Im doing a SCROG and whilst feeding a shoot through the net I noticed a small yellowy looking thing on the leaf.

Upon closer inspection they are on all the plants and the under side of the leaves. Its clearly come from my mother plant which has lost alot of leaves with the bronze silvery thing that happens. Im seeing early stages on the leafs on my clones which are 3 weeks today.

They are growing magnificently at the moment and I was going to flipped tomorrow. Ive been using Rhino Skin (potassium silicate) since the beginning so hopefully I have an edge and there are no webs.

I used a 1.5% hydrogen peroxide solution as thats all I had to hand. Im going to order some natural predators first thing tomorrow.

What hydro growers had them and still produced a decent crop?

I had them and got rid of them with azmax soaked the plants 2 to 3 times a week with a cheap sprayer from HD

When predator insects are brought in the possibility of bringing in other pests skyrockets. Use neem oil, get in concentrated form and mix in a little sprayer bottle.

Nuke em from orbit. Avid, Floramite, Forbid. (Veg only)

I grow dirt and was using happy frog for ages..... so I know a bit about the bugs....

For a mild infestation, just hit them w/ Azamax, wait 3-5 days, hit them again.... (this allows any eggs that hatched to be killed off before they mature enough to lay more eggs)

For persistent bitches..... I run an alternating series of 3 mixes... Azamax, Mightywash, and 3in1.... so they never get tolerance built up. Any given week theres a different mix in my 1gal sprayer....

For preventative measures, once the infestation is gone, and from now on, hit them once in a while w/ a lil neem oil mix, helps deter the bastards.

also... post harvest before moving new veg'd plants over, I like to fog, used to use doktor doom.... then found the smaller cans that were 10x stronger in pyrethrum... so now instead of bombing the room every few months, I tactically nuke the bitch, lol.

Are sure they are spider mites? I don't think so. I have never seen a mite on top of the leaves, and they are VERY hard to see. 99% of the time they are on the underside, and ALWAYS webs. Use a very fine water mist and if you see no web, no mites. Get some Safer soap, and spray everything, making sure you get the bottom of the leaves. It is a good general purpose insecticide. All the above products are good though, except the Azmax is overpriced in my opinion. If in some way they are spider mites, I have used a product called BANG!, and that shit definitely works. best 2 products for mites are azasol and mighty wash..or nega wash..mega wash is a company by the inventor of the mighty wash...I got some and it seemed to work better..I called mega wash before I bought some and the chemist said they now use 18 frequencies in mega wash so it much more effective....i could not find mighty wash close by so every grow shop had mega wash ...worked great

If they are spider mites, try lowering the temps. They thrive on higher temps (80+), and they reproduce faster. Lowering temps won't cure anything but it will slow them down.

There's more than enough opinions on this site for sprays, so I'll let you figure out whats best for your situation.

I never met anyone who had any luck with predator insects. I had a friend who introduced 2000 ladybugs into his bedroom grow. That was a mess lol.

If they've been growing for a while, and they said they've never had them they are probably lying. Some people just live with them, and still produce decent.

Wow people thanks for your replies. Turns out its thrips. I bought some Mighty wash and something else I didn't check the name of. The hydrogen peroxide didn't leave that plants looking their best though they're very much alive. Ill give then 24 hours respite I figure they've earned that then going in with the mighty wash ams cheap stuff called SB plant invigorator bug killer.

I have 2 problems, I have hydtroton in my ebb and flow tray and im doing a SCROG. Thankfully plants aren't embedded into the net that much but to get under every leaf is gonna be at least a 2 hour job. Maybe its me taking the respite because it a rez change, wipe down, rescrogging and flipping to 12/12 tomorrow.

Do you have pictures of the leaves and the tiny bug you think is a spidermite (you can't typically see spider mites with the naked eye. They are also red typically.

This is very bad information. A fully grown 2 spot spider mite is clearly visible with your eye. This is the most common form of MJ pest and is NOT RED. Some mites are red, but likely the ones u have are not.

Do you have webbing? Are their little white spots on the top of leaves? DO NOT FLIP u must eliminate the mites COMPLETELY before flowering or your crop is doomed. Get urself 2 miticides, (floramite, avid, tetrasan, forbid) and use them 4 days apart. Then flower if they are done.

shoulda read the replies......thrips are no biggy compared to mites.

Thanks dudes. Still a pain in the butt. I used mighty wash yesterday. Seen a few small flying ones. Will go again in a few days.

mighty wash is just deionized water, shit is a total scam. Go grab a real pesticide, thrips can be knoked out easy with Pyrethrum or something else that is pretty mild.

Azmax... I only preach this because I had a 3x3 srcog fully filled out and the shit worked great but I must say i was not in flower

ya he can use something a little stronger since the plants r still in veg. But aza is a dream for an organic product.

Rosemary and mint. Mites hate it. I'm an organic head. I won't use anything in a bottle. Don't trust their lies. Anyway my plushberry has been attracting them like crazy. Luckily they didn't jump ship to other plants. I made tea foliars with rosemary, mint, and neem meal. It has to be sprayed every other day the whole grow. At least with those pb's. I have 4 rosemary plants and 4 mint plants chilling in the room. On 2 sides the the mj plants. Mites are gone for good. so far. it kind of helps with the smell too. I think my filter is done too. Thats another story. I'm going to fill every empy space with rosemary and mint soon.


Ladybugs work too. But you need like 5000 lady bugs for a 5x8. They tend to sleep and not do their job. So you need to have a lot of them so they sort of fight over food instead of sleep.

I hate to be the guy that sharts in the jacuzzi but spider mites are the equivalent of passing out at an all night gay party. The only sure way to get rid of spider mites is to shut down and rain down a fiery vengeance from above!

First you shut down. Then bomb the room. Then bleach the room. Then bomb the bleach and bleach the bomb and then bleach bomb the whole fucking world...wait...maybe just stick to your room. Oh yea, you have to do everything twice. Really, I'm serious.

And last and most important...get down on your hands and knees and pray to God, "God I promise to be a good boy and never do anything wrong again for the rest of my life if you'll just please help me get rid of those fucking mites!" Actually leave the "fucking" part out but you get the idea...

Never had em touch wood. Had fungus gnats before switching to hydro and as much as they didnt seem to do much harm physically they got to me mentally lol. I now have PTS from the battle lol. I finally put out the white flag and threw the soil in the veggy garden were it belongs lol. Good luck with the battle, I fear you'll need it . Oh and 5000 lady bugs, that would be lovely lol.
