Speed controller

Okay So I just got the exhaust on my box done. It' a Terrabloom 6" inline booster fan. So my question is how much of a noise reduction will a speed controller Do? That thing is loud as hell you can hear it in the room next door

quite a bit, probably about half the noise at 65%
a lot of people also will wrap the fan in something, i used some towels, taped them in place, that cut it down about another 25%.
if you wrap it in something, go a couple of feet up the ducting as well

They make a big difference to my fans. But you want to make sure you get a variable transformer type (variac). Cheap speed controllers can make the noise worse.

I might have to get in touch with this guy.

I can only assume extractor fans are a different type of motor. Because I know variable transformers work well with them, I can see it in my set up and hear it easily.

there are a few different kinds of motors, if you want to use a router controller, it has to be a universal type brush motor.
for induction motors you need a variac or vfd

Im just going to order the manufacture recommended speed controller. Watched some videos on it and it looks like the controller for me!!

The best thing on earth for sound deadening is adhesive cork. It's what they use in cars and homes with very powerful stereos to keep them from rattling and falling apart from the vibration. You also don't have to wrap the entire motor and duct work in it. You just use strips of it here and there and it deadens the hell out of it.

I did a buddy of mine's setup a couple years ago with some stuff I had left over from a JBL system I put in my BMW years ago...it was so quite all you could hear was the air itself.

The stuff I had was called Dynamat. It's pretty pricey but it's the best stuff on the planet. You can get cheaper stuff though that's almost as good. Just Google up car stereo sound deadener or sound proofing. There's lots of different options. I think even Walmart carries some that's only 20 bucks or so.
