Like Tupac, every couple years for a new CD.. This thread is back from the dead.

April, I need your expertise with parts, for diesel engines. I'm serious. I'm trying to get my lubrication and fuel schematics for a dump truck. Unfortunately, all of the marking plates on the engine are scrap. I could grab the VIN, but... yeah, dude, it's a weed forum. I can give you all the details. You gotta' PROMISE not to mock me, though. Remember, I've only been a diesel mechanic for a year, before that I was a laborer, before that a convict, and before that a genius computer network and security engineer... Anyway, lemme' know if it's kosher to PM ya'.

I applied (submitted resume) for a tech support/jr. admin position. Recruiter skips me for that, and tells me she wants to submit me for a sr. security engineer. I was like "Nope, that's too much responsibility, thanks though." She was surprised and asked "you WANTED to do support?" Of course! Why else would I apply! So, I have an interview with the headhunters, and they'll clean me up and shop me out as an over-qualified semi-retired jr. admin.

IT experience - (criminal record + head injury + ineligibility for clearance) + excellent resume * seeking position under qualification level + seeking mid-level experience wage = likely admin job, means if I pee it's for a strip test.

And, as long as I'm a Jr. Admin, I can still work 1099 as a privacy/security consultant for small businesses, and individuals. (Hope Sunni doesn't think I'm plugging myself as a business!)

LoL, that was the job that I quit in September, and last I remember my projects on that were DOTing it (done+) fixing the lift bracket (built a new one) welding the bed back together after the dumb fucks ripped it to shit. And then welding the dump bed frame back, after one of the geniuses ran into it with a skid bucket. I also lined it with wood, per the boss.

The drunk Class A driver and tweaker onsite dump/skid operator didn't help, either.

Dude drove their 1100 gallon mounted pumper straight-truck with air brakes. He'd pop the parking brake, and at red lights he'd bounce on the brake peddle until his low-pressure lock kicked on, and then he'd complain that the brakes weren't working. He was He always had at lest a 12-pack with him...

I wish you all the luck in the world Minne (sincere). I have tried this. In the last 5 years HR( business cheerleaders) have been specifically trained to reject all overqualified personnel for a job in fear they won't stay when something better comes along. I have at least 12 anecdotes in the last 5 years supporting this.
You better practice your best Boo Radley imitation if you want to land this. Make sure you tell HR folks in the interview you love to get your hair petted, they fall for that one hard.

I let the mask rule the day. Charm that's outta this world. And, the recruiter is young, new to the industry, and looking to HELP, she NEEDS clients she can polish and pimp. There aren't a lot of people, in this area, that actually qualify for most positions, without being over-demanding, or without being severely overqualified. It's all or nothing. I have the advantage of being justified in seeking lower than my skill set and experience would otherwise warrant. Down here, if it's not military, a lot of places are "look the other way" friendly to felons, so long as you don't have a stack of work-place felonies. I have none. Everything I have recently in trouble for stems to a single incident, which was initially triggered by a brain injury. I look great in a suit, maintain caring, concerned, and truly interested eye contact. I'm humble in my experience, but confident in my skills.

I got a job at a bank, working their commercial security while I was on parole for (juvenile) robbery. Thank you, though! I know it's a ruthless, cut-throat industry. I'm hoping that, with a couple contacts this weekend, I can start consulting, privately, instead.

I do believe recruiters are wise enough to overlook over qualification, I just don't give HR folks the same benefit.
Knock em dead!
I have the same technique and no negative history or felonies and still get brushed aside for mouth breathers that can blow bubbles with their spit.
Hell if it works out for you, see if they have any other open positions, for me :)

If you can get clearance, you should look -- the clearance jobs are EVERYWHERE, and the experience is tied up in assholes like me that can't get clearance. Look in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Los Alamos, you'll need to be coming from research or a top-end school. No outta the industry allowed, unless you tuck in under contract after being local for a while.
